Other Discussion / Palin McCain's VP...
« on: August 29, 2008, 04:23:17 pm »
Well, he's managed to do something smarter than I've grown to expect (as far as political calculations go, McCain is a dipwad) by selecting a woman, but let's face it: anyone who wanted Hillary as VP isn't going to vote McCain/Palin anyway.  Yes, it's nice to see a woman on the ticket (a very, VERY popular woman from a very, VERY conservative state), but this was McCain's chance to laugh in cakefarts's face.

In 2004, George W. Bush got an 18-point bounce in the polls (extremely temporary, of course) after the GOP convention.  Well, the dems aren't as good as putting on a show (because it consists of more whining, and calling Americans whiners than anything else... although I must admit, Bill Clinton's speech was actually really good if you have a left-leaning perspective... he had some good zingers in there) and on the first day Barack cakefarts was up a point, and the next went down two.  McCain's pretty consistently only a point behind.

From my point of view, you want a VP who's good with foreign relations, or at least has the potential to be.  My choice would have been Lieberman, who obviously would scare off social conservatives, and those who are afraid of people older and wiser than them (two-old man ticket isn't what people are looking for this year).  But he's the best choice (as much as I sometimes dislike his politics).

However, from a purely Republican point of view (and I am a Republican), Mitt Romney would have been the best choice.  It would give McCain a very solid bounce, would make the convention buzzing with absolute giddyness, and it would show how electable McCain would be (my only problem is that Romney doesn't know anything but domestic policy, but he is very good at managing... I've actually talked to his boss during the 2002 winter olympics, and he told me how fantabulous he actually was).

Well... I guess she's better than Crist.  But really, it should have been Romney.

Entertainment / Your Favorite "Never Released" Titles
« on: August 23, 2008, 12:42:42 am »
Note: This thread is not for discussing games that never made it to your particular region, but only for games that were never "officially" released and/or were cancelled.  (In example, talking about BS Zelda, the original N64 Animal Crossing or Sin & Punishment--which is actually released for the virtual console on the Wii--would be inappropriate.)  No links to ROMs.

So what are your favorite games that were never officially released?  Of course, the two obvious answers to Nintendo fans would be Star Fox 2, and Earthbound 64.

I really love playing the Star Fox 2 BETA and comparing it to the original and Star Fox 64 (which is what it ultimately became), and I'd certainly recommend it to any Star Fox fan.  Earthbound 64 never really interested me.  Sure it would be fascinating to play through the e3 demo, but even what they had planned for the game wasn't as impressive as the press hyped it up to be.

A fun Nintendo64 game that I recently found a ROM for (and unfortunately, as far as I can tell, only the (E) region has been dumped) was 40 Winks.  Is it as fun as all the people on the emulation sites will tell you it is?  No.  Is it a "should-be classic"?  No.  But is it fun?  Yes, as any adventure fan who had it on the PlayStation will tell you.  I wouldn't put it in my top 10 of the N64... most of that is covered by Nintendo and Rare games, but it certainly is as good as 3rd party titles get for the N64.

And if you're a Rareware fan, like I am, you'll probably wish that we had a dump of Twelve Tales: Conker 64 and Dinosaur Planet.  I've gotta tell you, it would be nice to have another platformer, and apparently Conker 64 was just about finished when they decided to do a 180 and turn it into the M-rated "Conker's Bad Fur Day".

Dinosaur Planet would have been lovely... I don't know what it is about Rare's graphics on the Nintendo 64, but for some reason, it's even more appealing to me than the graphics in Star Fox Adventures.  It looked awesome, and I didn't care for Star Fox Adventures too much (for those of you who don't know: that's what it turned into), so it would be nice to see a ROM of the BETA.  Unfortunately, I think it's less likely that we'll get a dump from any of Rareware's titles than it is for us to be getting a dump of something from Nintendo.

Dinosaur Planet had some lovely mp3s released... you ought to check them out if you're a fan of what Rare did on the Nintendo 64.

So what about you guys?  What games have you played that were never "released", and which ones do you wish you *could* play?

Entertainment / The Zelda's We Never Saw... [Compilation]
« on: February 29, 2008, 12:04:06 am »
Perhaps, the title is a bit misleading, because this isn't really discussing much of substance.  But I like to speculate, and I welcome others and their theories.

First, I might want to mention that for those of you who haven't heard about the Ocarina of Time - Debug ROM, you might want to check some of that information out.  (No ROM links or requesting for ROM links, please.)

Apart from all the neat stuff you can find by exploring around in this copy, it got most of it's fame from showing the "Stalfos Boss Room", which we all know from early Zelda64 videos.

Next, is another obvious one-- The Legend of Zelda: Mystical Seed of Courage, which would have been a third "Oracle of ..." game.  I don't mind that there were only two, but I think the original concept of having three with linking features was pretty darn cool too.

This next bit is rumors of a Zelda 1 BETA.  Personally, as the site states the picture was featured in the original manual, I think it was probably just a challenge mode option they took out to avoid confusion.  Doubt if this BETA somehow did exist that it would be impressive.

The next two things are VERY impressive, though (although most of you have, again, probably seen these already).  First we have a prototype for Link's Awakening from an old NP magazine.  Here's a scan:

If this was out there somewhere, I'm sure we'd ALL be very interested as to what this is like.  Some have suggested that it might have been closer to aLttP in that, there may have been a "dark Hyrule" or something.  Open to discussion, jerks. :)

This is the thing that gets me the most excited, though, because I'm a huge fan of the BS Zelda games.  It appears to be a SNES remake of Zelda II:

Have anything to contribute to the thread/discussion?  Post away!

Discussion / Random Zelda Fan Game [Ideas] - Part I
« on: February 27, 2008, 03:25:24 am »
I used to do a lot of this, so I have a lot to say, mind you.  That's why I'll be posting my "ideas" little by little.  Note, there are some cancelled projects (like Paper Zelda- which was wonderful, because it reminded me of ZelDoom) that I'll probably be mentioning in there with my little twist on things, but as for now, here's just a couple of things that I've always wanted to do...

Zelda - The Cartoon Adventures

It's a very basic idea, take the 13 cartoon episodes and turn them into side-scrolling games.  (There could be a small amount of video clips, as ZU has the divx versions, and GM supports .avi files.)  After a basic engine was created, they could easily be released a week or so at a time.  It would be mostly action-adventure, but I think it could turn into good fun.

The Legend of Zelda: Sword of Power [3D]

This is a 3D-style game that was in-the-works, at one point.  The only part I've released of the story:

In the land of Hyrule... darkness stirs.

Princess Zelda dwelt in Hyrule with her father, the king, living happily for many years.  When the king passed away, he left the rule of his kingdom to her.  She was a just ruler, but darkness crept into her mind.  She grew sleepless, many nightmares occupying her dreams.

The Khepri, a mysterious people, traveled from their desert homeland to the land of Hyrule and lived in harmony with the Hylians for many years.  A dark god was rumored to have destroyed the lands which were once their home, but none dared to speak of it, save it were Linn, the Khepri’s High Priest.

In the midst of their peaceful lives, the princess one day vanished.  With a great burden put on his shoulders, and with the grief occupying his mind, Linn began to act strangely.  The people needed relief and guidance more than ever before.

Link, a wanderer, ventured into the land.  On the outskirts of Hyrule, he stumbled upon Zelda’s nursemaid Impa.  She told him of Ganon and how he secretly invaded the castle.  Princess Zelda, in her foresight, divided the Triforce of Courage (of which she was caretaker of)  into three pieces and hid them in the deepest, darkest places of Hyrule.  Impa was only just able to escape when Ganon and his minions captured the princess.  However, because of the seriousness of her injuries, she requested that Link to find an herb deep within the woods to cure her.  Link agrees to this mission and sets off on his quest.  Link agrees to this mission and sets off on his quest.

He starts the quest without a sword, so he must run from any unfriendly creatures until he stumbles upon a cave which contains the legendary Master Sword.  The ancient relics surrounding the sword explain the sword’s marvelous story.

With his newfound sword, Link battled his way through the forest, managing to find the herb being guarded by an ancient forest demon.  He slays the demon to claim the herb, quickly rushing to find Impa.  He gives her the herb, but to no avail, as she passes away in his arms.  He last piece of counsel is to seek out and find Linn for help on his quest.

As Link searches for Linn, he becomes acquainted with the Khepri.  After exploring the town outside of Hyrule Castle, and listening to the concerns of the townspeople, he finds Linn and asks for his help on his quest.  Linn betrays Link, calling him an enemy, and a threat to Ganon’s plan, rendering him swordless.

Link escapes and heads off to the forest to find the first piece of the Triforce of Courage.  Upon his journey into the forest, he finds some old ruins.  In the midst of these ruins lay the Sword of Power.  While it is unclear, what this sword’s power is, the ruins do mention that it takes upon itself a different form to it’s essences.

Link heads into a door found in the middle of these stone castle ruins...

Obviously there's much more story than that, but I've never given it all away (and with the additions Uppy made, I've never quite caught up to updating it).  Let me explain how this works with the gameplay: the first section is a nice little training section, where you find a sick Impa who needs a potion, you find a sword in a cave, going through the forest and fighting an evil demon who stands guard over the herbal remedy (or potion) Link needs.  After this, he goes back, Impa dies, the villagers he's acquanted himself with think he's a traitor (see Lynn's betrayal in the above story) and he goes off to find the Sword of Power.  He first goes through a forest dungeon where he finds the first "essence" (or power of the sword).  There is also a fire and ice dungeon.  The essenses found include the power to cool objects, melt objects and slice through hard objects.  Very basic Zelda-like stuff.  Anyway, there's also a desert dungeon.  Link is trying to find the Triforce of Courage, and there's four pieces scattered throughout these four dungeons.  The last dungeon is where the final showdown with Ganon will take place and all essences must be used.

It has a very basic layout, because I wanted to realistically make a 3D Zelda game (obviously, it's inspired very heavily by the old "Biyu Biyu Rocket" game, that I believe was never released, although they did have a dungeon demo, which was outstanding).  I'm trying to contact Uppy to see if I can get ahold of all of our current files (I was cut out of the programming job into the merge of mine and his projects).  If you want any more story/layout information you'll need to contact me personally and give me a good reason as to why I should share it with you. ;)

[Note: It was being made using 3D GameStudio A6, now with the release of LiteC and A7 it will be more easy to bring to reality.  Unfortunately, I don't have the money to update, and I still need the files from Uppy. :P]

Zelda Game & Watch: Remake

Basically, it's just an updated version of the G&W game, with modern graphics and simple gameplay.  Wouldn't be a bad idea for the first project, assuming you have access to Game & Watch Gallery 4 (if you need the save file to unlock it, I can point you to where one is for the EU version) and something simple like Game Maker.

The Legend of Zelda: Quest for the Triforce

This is a BS Zelda-esque style game, the project that evolved into SoP, and the only project that's been *mine*.  No one wants to make a BS Zelda-esque style game, but contact me if you ever do... I think I have some ideas that could help out.

Debates / Why do you support B.H. cakefarts?
« on: February 21, 2008, 10:57:12 pm »
The question's fairly simple, and easy to have a debate on, assuming you're willing to use the U.S. Senate web site to look for voting records, and maybe a bit of Lexis Nexis for campaign promises/pledges.

Why do you support Barack Hussein cakefarts?  (If you can't guess, I'm rooting for the other democrat.)

Debates / Is anyone as happy about New Hampshire as I am?
« on: January 10, 2008, 11:13:18 pm »
Iowa was so-so.  It was unfortunate that cakefarts won and Edwards got second, with Hillary in third.  And I'm really dissapointed in Giuliani's efforts and placing.  But (while I don't want Huckabee to win) I'm still thrilled that he managed to keep the vote from Romney.

So New Hampshire comes along and it looks like it's going to be up to McCain and Romney.  I'm again, thinking that I want Romney to be prevented from winning one of the most critical states for Republicans in the primaries.  I don't care for McCain much, but he's better than Huckabee and I didn't want Romney to get the state.

So the whole time I was rooting for Hillary and McCain.  Guess who won?!  (For those of you who don't watch the news, it's the two I just mentioned.)  I love life for a week.

Here's hoping Giuliani can get his act put together and Hillary can get nice and ahead of cakefarts.  Then this country will see the coolest presidential race since Jefferson and Hamilton.

Debates / Some Interesting Faulty Arguments Refuted
« on: December 20, 2007, 06:16:49 pm »
This isn't a debate at the moment, but it will undoubtedly turn into one, so I'm going to post it here.  I'm going to post a list of faulty arguments that have all been used on me at this forum at some point.

Faulty argument for someone to use if they're against capital punishment but pro-abortion choice (does not apply if you're against both):

(1) Capital punishment is wrong.  The system is rigged, and it's gonna kill more black people than anyone else.

True, although statistically black people commit more capital crimes.  Also, based on this logic, abortion is also rigged, because more black babies get aborted than white babies.  Did you know the KKK actually approves of abortion clinics?  And it's not because all the white people are getting their babies aborted.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=kkk+abortion

The first few results are interesting.  You might want to look at them.

Faulty argument for someone to use who's for the legalization of marijuana:

(2) If you tax it, and the government is in control of it, the legalization will decrease users and over time we could eventually do away with most mainstream use.

This shows a lack of clear thinking, and obviously comes from the mind of a pothead.  Not only does it show blatent ignorance reguarding a luxury tax, it just doesn't make sense.  All it does is put a government reliance on the luxary item that's being taxed (in this instance: marijuana).  If the government is taxing something, they're relying off of it to make revenue.  In example: the reason that cigarette smoking will never become illegal is because there's SO much revenue being made by the government on taxing each box.  If we take smoking away, everyone else's taxes go up, because the government would need to majorly compensate.

Faulty argument that could be used for just about anything, and has been used on me a hundred-million times on this forum:

(3) Don't impose your morals on everyone!

One way or another, a moral is going to be imposed.  So I'd rather it be mine than yours.

That's all I have for now, because my attention span is failing me.  Feel free to use your threads to post more faulty arguments, we can discuss the validity of them, and whatnot.  Just try not to make the faulty arguments, clear and obvious ones.  Please refute carefully thought-out ones, much like my first two (I added the third one for a sole purpose of going out with a bit of a zing).

In example, don't argue points that no one would bother to address in an actual debate (Further, "Fautly argument: Gay people = will kill our children." would be a stupid thing to post, because we all know why this is wrong).

[EDIT] Also, please only refute cleverly crafted faulty arguments that have been used on you in this forum (meaning ZFGC, from '03 on).

Entertainment / Beowulf (RealD/3D)
« on: November 30, 2007, 02:33:18 am »
Huh... I always get excited about the movies that nobody ever sees.  I really liked this show.  Everyone complains about how it's animated.  I agree, that it's a bit ridiculous how realistic Angelina and Beowulf look compared to most of the other characters (especially the females and John Malkovich's character), but it was really cool in 3D.  Of course, I wasn't able to see it in IMAX.  Only in RealD, digital projection 3D.  But it still looked pretty great.

Also.  Loved Silvestri's score.  And the script was absolutely brilliant.  Should NEVER have gotten away with a PG-13 rating though.  Animated or not, this is still R-rated material.  In fact, if you've seen the restricted trailers, the only things that I've noticed are change are the following things:

(1) Not as much blood comes out when the lady lands on the spike.
(2) When Beowulf is ripping Grendel's ear, it's been changed to green puss, no longer red blood.
(3) The camera cuts before Grendel rips off the guy's torso.

And the sexual content is innapropriate for 13 year olds.

But I did like the movie a lot.  Just have some beef with their marketing.

Debates / GOP screws Evangelicals?
« on: October 25, 2007, 11:24:15 pm »
Forgive my generalizations, because there's going to be a freak of a lot of them:

The GOP, the underdog, in this race is doing horrible things to one of it's base groups-- the Evangelical Christians.  It's odd that they'd already be at a disadvantage (note: it's a rarity in history where a single party will hold both houses of congress AND the presidency-- yes, that's why we talk about the genious of Karl Rove), but they're certainly crippling themselves far worse than they need to be.

The "gay marriage" thing is important, but not election-worthy important to Evangelical voters.  Generally, it's the abortion issue that tends to sway such voters in primary elections.  The one thing that you have to keep in mind is that the Evangelical-crowd equivocates pro-choice with Satan, so voting democrat is out of the questions.  It's just *which* Republican they want to throw their support to.

Giuliani's easily out of it.  He's pro-choice and admits it.  Every time he's asked about what he'll do about abortion he says "nothing", but will usually point out that even if he was pro-life he couldn't do anything even if he wanted to completely disreguard the constitution (someone better watch out for the Giuliani guy, one of these days he's liable to say something crazy)...

Mitt Romney is a MORMON.  The Evangelical crowd isn't going to want to vote Mormon ("they're not real Christians!"-- I blame the education levels).  And if that wasn't enough, he used to be pro-choice until a fairly recent election-friendly flip-flop.  In attempt to get this out of the way, he went to speak about it and why it makes more sense to be pro-life.  This was nothing more than an attempt to get the audience to agree with all the points he makes and therefore get them to like him better.

The Evangelical's both in the polls and the press like Fred Thompson more.  But this boring, old, crusty, unattractive heck entered the race far too late and might die out of boringness before too much longer anyway.

The Evangelical's (smarter than they look), realize this and they're trying SO hard... they're trying so, so, so hard to support Romney.  Because they want a shot at this presidency thing in '08.  But Romney, a mix between JFK and John Kerry makes this a bit hard for them.  There's always something about the Romney speeches that seems insincere.  Perhaps it's the lack of emotion in his voice, or perhaps it's because he's busy trying to appear "politically correct" (which term from this point on will now be reffered to as "socially acceptable") that he won't tell you much about what he'll actually do other than it'll be conservative and he'll attempt to do it in a way that's appeasing to both Republicans and Democrats.  The latest is that he'll appoint judges (if any die while he's in his four year term... a feat I consider to be unlikely) who can overturn Roe v. Wade.  I hope no one actually believes this...

(No seriously.  Next time you're at Borders, go look up his book on how he won the Olympics and made Utah a success.)

The latest was when Romney said that he's not going to "try and distance [him]self in any way, shape or form from [his] faith".  He also added that he wouldn't take input from religious leaders (see: JFK).  So he's trying to juggle it all.  But he's going to do much better in the primaries than Thompson, so it looks like he's the Evangelical's best bet.  Although when Mormanism is being reffered to as "a cult" in the national media, you've got to wonder what they'll end up doing.

P.S. Upon reflection, I need to start giving McCain more credit than I have been.  I feel safe enough to say that I don't need to worry about Ron Paul, but McCain started running a DANG good ad that could help him a lot...

Debates / Mitt Romney
« on: October 25, 2007, 11:15:16 pm »
This man needs to stop saying stupid things.

He was the original flip-flop on SEVERAL major GOP issues, not the least of which (but not the most contraversial either) was abortion.  He plays politics to win and has an ego a hundred times the size of his "I was soley responsible for the success of the 2002 winter olympics" book.

However, that's nothing compared to Mitt's messing up in the debates.  He and Guiliani got into an argument about tax cuts and who cut them better, each claiming the other actually raised taxes (McCain blew both of them off and said both of them raised taxes).  In the middle of this argument, Mitt has the nerve to bring up the issue of line-item vetos.  If you're not familiar with a line-item veto, Newt "His first name says it all" Gingrich, and the "conservative coalition" gave this congressional power to William Jefferson Clinton.

The problem with this is that a line-item veto allows a president to pass *parts* of a budget bill, but cut and/or reduce the budget in whichever areas he chooses.  This means Congress is giving their budgeting rights off to the executive branch, something that's stated to be an explicit "no-no" in the constitution.  So when the opportunity came, and New York city was going to lose $250 million of funding, Rudy Giuliani took the opportunity to sue the excutive branch, and the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional.

Any high school history class will explain to you why it's clearly unconstitutional, but Mitt used it on the offensive and condemned Giuliani for taking this important presidential power away from our commander-in-chief (even though it's actually a congressional power).  Giuliani didn't do much to counter such a point, because he didn't have to.

To top the most recent debate off, when asked about whether he'd ask for congressional approval if he felt like Iran was a threat he responded with a one-liner that's made him a laughing stock in every national newspaper I've read (which is admittedly limited to the New York Times, Wall-Street Journal and a few online sources).  It went as follows: "You sit down with your attorneys and tell you want you have to do, but obviously the president of the United States has to do what's in the best interest of the United States to protect us against a potential threat. The president did that as he was planning on moving into Iraq and received the authorization of Congress."

Giuliani's campaign took the opportunity to make a rather clever joke about the comment saying, "Let's hope he doesn't consult the same lawyers that told him a line-item veto was constitutional."  This one's going to hurt him.  And if he keeps on trying to dodge questions with... well, "dodgy" answers, he won't win the GOP primaries.  But he's polling ahead (pardon the clever, clever pun) in the beginning states so I'm pissed.

So Giuliani was using every chance he gets to crack another lawyers joke.  They also like to point out that the above-mentioned quote isn't the only one of it's kind... another instance in the debate goes as follows (provided to you by the Washington Post online):

"Chris Matthews... asked whether President Bush needed the Congressional approval he received for the Iraq invasion, Romney again offered a legalistic answer.

'You know, we're going to let the lawyers sort out what he needed to do and what he didn't need to do,' Romney said."

Giuliani himself IS a lawyer (as Romney tries to point out, because he thinks it'll deter all the lawyer-jokes he's getting), and I'd rather have the White House run by a man who isn't going to have lawyers tell him what he can and can't do.  Sure, you'll have your consultants.  But we're talking COMMANDER IN CHIEF.  Not just some political figure... this man controls the police power (aka. our ARMY), and is head of the EXECUTIVE (ie. "enforcing") branch of government.

Okay... this was written by me a couple weeks ago, so it's kinda dated, but gets to the general point: one of many reasons that I hate this man.

Entertainment / So I saw Transformers yesterday...

...hardcore nerd movie.  If you don't have a girlfriend, if you live with your mom, and if you're somewhere between the ages of 11-25 you'll love this movie.

I didn't care for it so much.  (On a side note, I always get irked at the objectification of women, and the vulgar humor was EXTREMELY nerdy.)

The robot fighting was cool, but if this was an hour shorter, I would have been much happier.  And the climax was really boring.

Debates / Evolution
« on: June 20, 2007, 05:14:58 pm »
Yeah, I'd like to debate evolution.  I think it's ridiculous that it even has to be debated at all, when paleontologists oppose it more than Christians.

I just have one quick note for all you supporters of it: calling me a Christian fundamentalist does not debunk my arguments.  Try using facts and evidence to disprove me instead of name-calling.  (I have a headache, just thinking about last time we discussed this.)

So we don't have evidence for evolution, and even our examples of natural selection in real time are weak.  For example, the fake peppered-moth discovery.  It was determined that there were too many problems for this to be evidence for natural selection when the moths (1) slept during the day when the birds were awake and (2) they actually slept under the branches, not on the trunks of trees.

So you have scam after scam after scam in evidence for evolution, and you're left with just about nothing.  We don't even have an example of natural selection in modern time (for those of you who'd like to point to pesticides and insect resistence: note that natural selection is reffering to random mutations creating favorable characteristics).

Anyone have a case to argue?

Debates / Cindy Sheehan
« on: June 19, 2007, 07:22:02 pm »
I know this is an old subject.  Very old.  But I saw a reel of news highlights the other day, and I remembered that I'd completely forgotten about her!  Personally I was severly upset how you had an MSNBC person going "can't talk back to her, because her son died", yet they blatently ignored all the mom's with dead sons that supported the war, and didn't hate Bush so fiercly.

Now, this debate isn't about the war, it's just talking about the ethics involved with her 5-minute claim to fame and how the media used her.

Personally, I think what she did cheapens the cause of the war.  If we start caring about individuals who die more than the bigger picture, we're an overly emotionalistic society.  And that saddens me.

Okay, so I can't for the life of me seem to find a topic for this, and I'm wondering why the freak not... did I just miss it?

Okay, so I just saw it today.  It was better than the second movie... not that great though.

It was okay.  You could tell that they want to make a number 4, but if you stay until after the ending credits, they give you enough closure so that if they don't, it'll be "satisfying enough".

Way too freakin' long though, and way too much money spent on a movie with really... weak action sequences.  Preview this before you show it to the kiddies... it might carry the Disney title, but it's not exactly deserving of it (that being said, it's not a "hard" PG-13 rated movie... just more than you'd expect from Disney).

Entertainment / Battlestar Galactica
« on: May 23, 2007, 07:22:55 pm »
Okay, so I'm sure we've all seen the old 1978 movie... it's not as popular as Star Wars (and many of your parents probably hate it as much as I do), but it's a pretty darn culturally-prominent movie.

I haven't seen any of the old episodes, simply because I thought that the movie sucked.  And apparently Battlestar Galactica 1980 (the series) was even worse.

Somehow it managed to get a cult following (thus it being culturally prominent), and as you all know: sci-fi has sponsored the "re-imagined" series.  I remember my first impression of seeing part of the mini-series on T.V. was, "What movie is this and why did I miss it in the theaters?"

Three years later, I'm now officially addicted and have watched the mini-series as well as season 1 (and part of season 2).

It's undoubtedly the best show on television.  Heros had a lot of people addicted, so did 24, but that's because they're on mainstream networks.  BSG failed when NBC tried them out (they scheduled it stupid), so it's stuck on sci-fi and most people I know who love the show watch the DVDs.

Any other addicts out there like me?  It's been years since I've been addicted to a TV show and let me tell you: it feels great. :P

Note that "Pirate Quest" is just the working title.  It's a cel shaded adventure game using many of the graphical assets from “LOZ: The Wind Waker”.  It would be played with a third-person camera style.  Featuring five expansive levels, you must fight, sail and use platforming elements to get past obstacles.  Collect medallions to earn a mini-game.  The mini-game would be getting through an obstacle course, finally fighting a mini-boss all within a certain amount of time.  Unlockable on the chapter select menu.

The levels are presented as “chapters”.  When you complete one, the next becomes unlockable.

Level 1 - “Adventure, Ho!”
In this level, you start as an aspiring pirate that’s looking for adventure.  Once you find the pirates, you must go through their hidden obstacle course to prove your worthiness.

Level 2 - A Pirate’s Feast
In this level, you are sent by the pirates to go into town to ravage supplies.  Don’t get caught!  A cameo of Link should be in this level.

Level 3 - Set Sail!
In this level, you must navigate the ship, while the captain sleeps, to your destination.  Watch out for sharks!

Level 4 - The Legend
On the island that is your destination, you must find a map that will lead you to the treasure cave.

Level 5 - Treasure Cave
This level would be similar to a “dungeon” (like in Zelda) and have a boss, finally finding the treasure and completing the game.

There are two hidden medallions to be found on each level to unlock the mini-game.

Anyhow, that's just a rough-sketch and probably too complicated for what we're trying to do, but I thought I'd throw it out there nonetheless.

Entertainment / Movies that have changed your life!
« on: May 21, 2007, 11:13:34 pm »
I'd have to say that Braveheart was a life-changing film for me.  It probably wasn't for a lot of other people, but I was practically bawling when I saw this for the first time (when I was twelve).  It's three hours, but in my opinion, it's the best film ever made!  I'm listening to the music right now, and I love this movie.

So what movies have changed YOUR lives, what has it changed and why did it change it?

For me, Braveheart changed my life because it was the most... beautiful love story I've ever seen portrayed on screen with such emotion.  Not to mention, it was freakin' awesome.  If I ever become a successful movie director, I want to go back to the first draft of the script and remake this movie.  Because the first draft of the script is even better than the movie (if that's even possible)!

I've made a couple, thought I'd make a thread.  They're just stupid and neither one of them took us longer than 4 hours to make.  We're gonna do some more, but we're gonna use more fresh material.

Discussion / 3D Level Design - Creating a Satisfying Experience
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:06:54 am »
I posted an article on Binary Phoenix about 3D level design and what makes a level truly good.  This is the first of many articles on the subject (I don't want to look at this one-dimensionally-- parden the pun), but I'd like some feedback if any of y'all have the time.  Thanks!

Debates / The Clinton Case
« on: April 07, 2007, 12:50:06 am »
Okay, so this is a very simple debate: should Clinton have been impeached, and if so... should we have taken it another step farther and removed him from office?  Keep in mind that the grounds of impeachment are laid out in the constitution.  Don't make yourself look stupid through ignorance.

The question is if perjury is worthy of getting impeached or even being removed from office.  I'll abstain from posting my opinion so I don't bias the first few posters (because we all know I'm going to be right :P).

However, it must be first understood that the Lewinsky case *was* indeed our business.  Because Lewinsky was an intern, Clinton our Commander in Chief.  We see it all the time on a lower scale: college proffesors will get fired (although because it's not illegal, not put in jail) for having sex with students even though they're over 18, because it's an abuse of power.  So the point was that the FBI had every reason to investigate, and it was the business of every single one of us.

The question is him lying about it under oath (a felony) is worthy of impeachment and possible removing of office.

Debate!
