I'm well aware that the reverb's a bit off, but I'll get around to fixing it soon.

Audio / Recent music pieces
« on: August 24, 2008, 01:28:26 am »
Been doing quite a bit of different styles of composing lately, and I've got a few wip tracks to share:

http://www.box.net/shared/8a13a5b7ms
In progress track for Wanilla's new game, Superstar Galaxy.

http://www.box.net/shared/1q05ecld1c
In progress track for the Rod of Elements. Probably remeniscent of some of Q.K.'s crystalline river songs.

http://www.box.net/shared/amve4k4lau
Some random piece, with a lot of electric guitar. Almost complete.

http://www.box.net/shared/zjse2vxkvy
First "true" electronic piece, not using any real instrument samples. Not complete either.

http://www.box.net/shared/8q0xlm3y0u
An mp3 render of the harves moon DS spring theme that I submitted to vgmusic last week.

Pretty much a summary of most of my recent stuff. Hope you enjoy them.

Prologue
A long, long time ago…
Evil spirits appeared in the land of Hyrule and just when the world was on the verge of being swallowed by shadow...
The tiny Picori appeared from the heavens, bringing the hero of men a sword and a golden light.
With wisdom and courage the hero drove out the darkness.
When peace had been restored, the people enshrined that blade with care.
Hyrule was left undisturbed for many years, and because of this it prospered. But it was to be that it would not be like this forever.
Terrible disasters occurred. Villages burned, Death Mountain erupted, and the land of Hyrule was on the edge.
Just as the people prayed to the goddesses to save them, a mysterious stranger appeared. He said he could help them, and offered to calm the turmoil and destruction, in return for being the Keeper of the Four Sword.
The people hailed him as a hero, like the Hero of Light of old times. They rallied behind him, and supported him with his cause.
The royal family, with nowhere else to turn, unwillingly accepted his proposition. The stranger then by mysterious power calmed the disasters, and Hyrule was at peace once again.
The people rejoiced, and began restoring the former glory of their land.
The strange man was satisfied. He returned to the castle to retrieve his prize. When he arrived, the royal family denied ever making such a deal with a complete stranger.
Angered, the man used his dark powers to turn the King and his soldiers to stone, and continued to pursue the sword.
When he arrived at the chamber where the Four Sword was hidden, he walked to the sword and pulled it from its pedestal.
No sooner did he realise his mistake…
The sword, sensing an evil being, destroyed it in the only way it could. It absorbed the man, and by absorbing his evil, changed shape in the progress.
The great disasters outside could now not be stopped, and the castle and town sunk beneath the land, never to be seen again.
As for the sword, it was shattered, the pieces flying over the land of Hyrule. It all became legend, and neither the sword nor the man was ever seen again.
Extract from the first chapter
[spoiler=Extract - May contain spoilers]Link is sleeping. Suddenly, the house shakes, and wakes Link from his sleep. He goes downstairs and wakes his father, a farmer who tells him not to worry, and to go back to sleep.
The next morning, Link and his father go to investigate the disturbance, and find that the only way out of the valley they live in has been blocked by a deep chasm that has opened up from the night’s earthquake. Annoyed, and slightly worried, Link’s father sends him to cut wood in the small forest across the paddock at the back of their house, so they can build a bridge, while he will fetch some rope.
Link completes this task, and returns to the chasm. His father then remembers that they need his blueprint folder, which he has left in the barn after making some fences around a field.
Link fetches the book, and gives it to his father, who goes about showing Link how to build a small bridge using the plans. They complete the bridge, and he and his father make their way to the nearby village, Seshripe Village, where they would report their findings to the mayor.

very unexciting at the moment... Mapping isn't a priority right now :D.

Demos
4/8/08 - Layer demo - a little test of the layer engine I spent a couple of hours coding. Currently has support for 5 layers above and 5 below, but to change that I only need change a couple of variables.
9/8/08 - Layer demo update - Changed the way the game changes layers and added a test for changing the layers with side movement. Could not recreate the glitch in post http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=30159.msg335738#msg335738
History
4/8/08 - Started topic, uploaded layer test demo.
9/8/08 - Updated the layer test demo with a new way for changing the layer, posted game in the site's WIP section.
20/8/08 - Day/night/lighting engine almost complete, confirmed that the game will be using the ZFGC-API.
Credits
Goodnight - for his movement engine. Thanks mate, never would have been able to do it otherwise, I'm terrible at coding complex movement :D.

Discussion / The Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Elements
« on: July 30, 2008, 07:10:07 am »
Well a little while ago I found a short storyline for an old game of mine, titled The Legend of Zelda: The Rod of Elements.
Anyway, I took one look at it and realised it was way too vague... and it wasn't even that good. So I'm rewriting it, and plan on making a game of it.
I'll post the prologue for now, I don't plan on giving too much away.

A long, long time ago…
Evil spirits appeared in the land of Hyrule and just when the world was on the verge of being swallowed by shadow...

The tiny Picori appeared from the heavens, bringing the hero of men a sword and a golden light.

As you can see, it contains the minish cap prologue at the start, I found this neccessary to explain some of the other details, and this game will fit in between TMC and WW, and I should be able to seamlessly join the two. None of this here is actually played by the player. It's just the prologue.
One of the features I'm going to put in this game is a construction/building system, allowing the player to make things along the journey. It will use a system that I'm calling blueprint, and that's all I'm saying.
The game will be in TMC style, as I fell in love with that as soon as I played the game, and I've never really liked ALLTP or any of the older games. Not sure how I'm going to go making the custom sprites, I'm not much of a spriter...
I plan on composing a heap of original music for it, as I'll be trying to convey the emotion of the story in the later chapters.
Not sure wether I'm going to make this in game maker or the ZFGSDK as of yet, I'm seeing advantages in both (no arguments, please) as I can already code in game maker, but the ZFGSDK will have some other benifits that we've discussed in the dev boards.
If anyone feels like they want to help with the spriting, I'd be happy to have it once I start production.
Also, this story was previously called cloud of darkness, but I found that the rod of elements relates more directly to the story, although after a rewrite I'm not sure. If you think the other name's better, say so.
Comments appreciated, although I probably won't be changing anything in the story at this stage. And if you want me to post some more, I could post an extract from the first chapter.
Cheers.

Feedback / LOL too many admins

Audio / My Tin Whistle Soundfont
« on: July 02, 2008, 07:32:48 am »
Free to use, it's my first soundfont I've made. I made it on the account that I couldn't find any good soundfonts of tin whistles. If you feel so inclined, I'd like to know how/what you're using it for, and you can credit if you want, although that's not necessary.
Demo song: http://www.box.net/shared/ljg2fzcgsk Contains a quick arrangement of Kazumi Totaka's song, and a remix of a bit of one of the Corrs songs, just so you can hear it played staccato and tenuto.
Download soundfont here: http://www.box.net/shared/5kojv3x0ko
Enjoy :).

I found some things that might intrigue... :P.
EDIT: oh, and the only reason I blanked out the url was so no one else goes a lookin.

Coding / Help with a C# tutorial?
« on: May 17, 2008, 08:53:50 am »
Well, I'm having a look at the tutorials on C# station, and I've put this code into my program.
Code: [Select]
// Namespace Declaration
using System;

// Program start class
class NamedWelcome
{
    // Main begins program execution.
    static void Main(string[] args)
    {
        // Write to console
        Console.WriteLine("Hello, {0}!", args[0]);
        Console.WriteLine("Welcome to the C# Station Tutorial!");
    }
}
Unfortunately, whenever I try running this I get an IndexOutOfRange exception. The site doesn't say anything about something like this. Can anyone help?
And I'm using visual studio 08.

Audio / Piece for my band
« on: May 11, 2008, 03:27:23 am »
Yeah, I've been having a go at making a piece for our school band. Been a bit hard, considering we don't have any strings except one double bass.
Anyway, here's a little short from it so far. Pretty much the first movement. Let me know if you like it or not.
http://www.box.net/shared/6y6icbc00c
I'm thinking the ending of this movement is a little rushed... I need to do something other than put long notes there. Mabye continue on the fast pace style? :)

Feedback / Bring back the kid link/WW emoticons!
« on: May 08, 2008, 02:27:09 am »
Can we? they used to be my favourite emoticons, and I'm getting sick of seeing the "TP Link" ones. Hell, hardly anyone even likes TP.

Feedback / Crappy Server
« on: April 05, 2008, 05:30:28 am »
I am continually getting errors telling me that "the server at zfgc is taking too long to respond."
I don't have any idea what's causing this, but every other site I go on works fine.
I only have to click "try again" about 5 times with about a minute long wait in between each to even post a reply. >_>
It's really starting to !@#$% me off. Anyone got any explanations? or is it doing this for anyone else?

Feedback / Claiming rupees for resources
« on: February 25, 2008, 08:43:11 am »
In the topic about rupees for resources, it doesn't specify how to claim them.
I mean, do we pm, wait, or just make a topic about it?
If we have to wait it seems like it would be a long time.
Just wondering because I've already posted a 70 sound MC zip in sounds and music gallery XD.

Feedback / inetrest rate doesn't work?
« on: February 16, 2008, 01:37:02 am »
I have a feeling that the interest rate in the bank doesn't work. Infinitus has been sitting on 1000 rupees for the last few days, and according to the bank there should be a 2% increase every day.
That's why I get the feeling that it doesn't work.

Feedback / change user title not working
« on: February 11, 2008, 06:23:51 am »
I brought the item change user title, but it doesn't work.
I get a screen saying to report it if I get this message.
Does it work for anyone else? or is there a character limit, or you can't have spaces or something like that?

Feedback / Annoying spam forum
« on: February 10, 2008, 04:32:19 am »
Is there any way to make it so the posts from the spam forum don't show up in the recent posts box at the bottom of the page? It gets really annoying when you're looking for something to discuss other than spam that is recent.
I don't know if it bothers anyone else but it does me.
