Audio / MC sounds - ALL SOUNDS!!! (except for the soundbank)
« on: August 17, 2007, 09:37:18 am »
Here they are, ripped by me. It contains all of the sounds in MC, although some sounds like the bomb explosion are not there, simply because they are a mixture of some of the random bangs that are in this. best to use a program like audacity (google it) to just cut out and save the parts of the sound you want.
Download Here - 3.72MB
Please not this does not contain the soundbank samples, and therefore misses out the wolf howling and I think the rain. If you want this though, just PM or e-mail me.
Hope some people can get some use out of it.

I never knew you could do that. That would help soooo much for making things like teleporters and stuff, no more heaps of different ones for every area.

Entertainment / metaphor
« on: July 28, 2007, 02:41:43 pm »
well I just went and saw a classical rock group called metaphor tonight with one of my mates, and all I can say is it was awesome. The group's 4 girls about 20-30 years old and they play drumkit, piano/keyboard (2 sets of keys), electric violin and electric cello. One of them comes from AU, another from USA, one from china and the last from israel. Total awesomeness the concert was, going for about 2 hours and they played things like nirvana (teen spirit), we will rock you, the bumble bee thingo, and a whole heap of other songs. Anyway, I enjoyed myself and just thought you guys might like to know XD.
Anyone else seen this concert yet? they're touring AU at the moment.

Discussion / [Pre]Pokemon Brawl (real time pokemon game)
« on: July 13, 2007, 12:04:53 am »
Pokemon Brawl (working title)

The Idea
Make a battle game with pokemon, similar in some ways to super smash bros, except 2d and top-down rpg view. Players battle over various landscapes with certain types having strengths and weaknesses to certain landscapes. Personally I'm sick of seeing hundreds of pokemon fan games all built the same way as the original rpg's.

Features
  • Story mode, where players can build their pokemon up and progress through the story.
  • Brawl mode, where players can fight against others and earn trophies and special items. Online mode may be incorporated.
  • Graphics are either straight mystery dungeon or mix of FR/LG/R/S and mystery dungeon.
  • World Builder, so you can build your own mulitplayer levels (custom levels will not be supported in online mode).
  • Move Maker, so you can make your own moves.
  • Pokemon Maker, so you can use your own graphics to create your own pokemon, or a whole new type with its strengths and weaknesses.

Things I need help with
Just coming up with a better title at the moment. Nothing else.

So what do you think?
Please post your opinions, they will be appreciated. :)

Other Discussion / why is hyrule boy god?
« on: July 12, 2007, 08:44:54 am »
I mean, look at his profile first (http://www.zfgc.com/index.php?action=profile;u=3), and notice his rank. first it was maniac poster, now god. no offence against him, but he's not even a mod, and I don't really want to be ruled by hyrule_boy... :-\ who made those ranks anyway? maniac poster suited him. every topic has him in it once.

well, just started making this about half an hour ago for the Rod of Elements OST, and thought some of you guys might want to hear it. I hope you like it, even though it's only about a quarter done and still missing the percussion and other instruments. no effects like reverb added either.

« on: June 17, 2007, 04:21:44 am »
what happened to infinitus's account? all I see on a post is 0 hearts, no management thing and that he's pissed off and is doing a private poll if people want him to quit. What I want to know is though did he quit, temporarily or completely, or did a mod ban him for swearing and such? I dunno.

Other Discussion / school program blocking
« on: June 15, 2007, 02:26:36 pm »
ok, it's like this. at my school we have this #*$%ed up thing that pops up every time you try to run a program off of a usb or in the so called "custom block list" thingo.
it says (to this effect):
"cannot access the exe E:\game_maker_6\gm.exe . this program has been blocked by a software restriction policy. access denied."
we used to be able to just use the visitor account to run games and crap, but that got blocked. anyone know how to get through something like this?

Entertainment / Post yourself playing Zelda or Indie game music!
« on: May 25, 2007, 08:04:29 am »
Post your own Zelda or Indie game music!

Topic History
24/3/08 - Added history, cleared up dead links and requests.

What is this topic about?
In this topic you are given the chance to record yourself playing zelda or indie game music and post it here, including what instrument you play, and the song it is based on. Then your playing can be viewed and commented by other people.

What do I use to record, and where can I upload my files?
1. To record the music or video, you will require a microphone and camera (only for videos, obviously). You will then need a program to record and convert your music. I suggest Audacity, which can be downloaded here. You can also record over an mp3 or midi.
2. You will then need to convert it to mp3 using the lame_enc.dll mp3 codec here(Audacity will ask you to locate it before converting to mp3).
3. Upload the file to a file storage site (like box.net) or your own site.
4. Post a reply in this topic with the link to the file.
You're done! Sit back and wait for people to comment on your music!

Beggining Game Story
Hundreds of years ago darkness seeped into the land of Hyrule, and changed its shape forever. Death Mountain blew up in an eruption, The Lost Woods caught fire, Lake Hylia dried up, and Hyrule Castle and Hyrule Town themselves sunk beneath the earth, and were lost from all civilisation.
The ancient tribes of Hyrule all united in an attempt to destroy the darkness, but it resisted all attempts to be destroyed. The people prayed to the goddesses to send a hero to save them. Then a boy came forward, and bathed in light of the goddesses, he was granted a sword with the power to repel evil and hold the power of light. After the evil’s defeat, the legendary sword that was used to defeat him was placed back in its pedestal, ready to be used whenever it was needed.
The sword has never been needed since, and although many explorers of Hyrule attempted to find the sacred shrine, all attempts to find it were in vain. Many people believe the sword can only be found by a chosen hero at a time of need.

Some say it never existed. Others believe it was a tale created by their ancestors.
Yet others still believe it was true, and hope it is never needed again, but although evil can be kept at bay, it can never quite be eradicated. Only time will tell when it is needed again…

As you can see from the all the subtitles at the top, so far I haven't got much to show except the storyline, and title. I know the story dosen't seem to relate to the title at all, but that's because you have to wait untill the game's finished to be able to piece together the full story, that's more like the starting story in the game. In fact it is.
Like most of those seem to say, I'm still in the building and testing phase for the main game elements (movement, items etc.), and all I can show is a test room if I really have to. Hope you like the idea.

Current Credits
Goodnight - for his collision engine (I'm so bad at coding collisions)
Bethesda Softworks - for the current Mp3 found in the game TES IV Oblivion.

Other Projects / [Pre] Hand of God - GM 6.1
« on: May 04, 2007, 12:41:27 pm »
Hand of God

Game Idea
Basically the aim of the game is to advance your humans, prevent them from warring and help them discover all the technology avaliable to them by playing the part of God. As with all gods, you can either be evil or good. If you are a good god, you will gain faith from believers which will, in turn, allow you to use your godly powers, wether that be planting trees, making oil basins or making meteors fall from the sky. If you are a bad god and use your powers to destroy the humans, they will lose faith in you, and if they lose all faith with you, they have completely lost faith and just don't believe in your powers anymore. Scince they don't believe in you, you can't help them, and all you can do is destroy them, as they see even useful powers as evil.

A long time ago one of my mates showed me this dvd, called animusic. we watched it, and obviously... it was great (most of the songs). then, looking on youtube the other day, I found a whole collection of the music videos from it.

Here's one, Aqua Harp. one of the more relaxing ones.

Discussion / GM 6.1/7.0 Compressor
« on: April 15, 2007, 04:02:38 am »
Okay, so this isn't mine, but I thought it may be useful to the community, so I posted it. :P
For those of you without a GMC (Game maker community) login (or just don't use it at all), I found this while browsing the game maker creations board. from my understanding, what it does is compress GM 6.1/7.0 files to about 1/2 their normal size (one of the screens on the site has something like 80% reduction rate), I'm not sure weather it compresses the exe's or the gm6/gmk files, look in the topic http://forums.gamemaker.nl/index.php?showtopic=290637 yourself if you want to find out. also this does not compress any other types of files.
the only downside to this is that both the downloader and uploader need the program, which makes winzip a more popular choice.
the download link is in the topic, here http://forums.gamemaker.nl/index.php?showtopic=290637

Entertainment / What is your favourite music???

There. Happy everyone? It has a lot of music styles in it now! ;D

For all those out there who have played the game, i had this great idea - WHY NOT MAKE DARK CHRONICLE A 2D PC GAME AS WELL AS A PS2 GAME??? (Well i know i enjoyed the game enough to want to have it with me all the time on my laptop, not just my ps2). I have no idea weather to use TGF or GM6 reg. to make it, TGF is good because of faster loading times, and i hear it has a similar programming interface as game maker (I have used that for almost every game i have ever made) but as i just mentioned, i know how to build a lot more with GM6. (I suppose GM6, you can still make external files for the game to use). I was going to put Mp3 music in it, but i need a few artists for characters, tiles, menus, tilesets, items, and every other friggin sprite in the game. if you want to join the team as an artist (or any other position you can offer that i need) submit a sample.

CHARACTER SPRITERS - [either max, monica, or a monster facing L,R,U,D (no animation yet, unless you really want to)]
TILESET SPRITERS - [1 set of dungeon tiles made with one of the dungeon themes]
ITEM SPRITERS - [5 item/weapon icons for the menu]

That's all for now - I'll check this at least twice a week.  ;)

One peaceful day in Hyrule, A surge of natural disasters goes through and blocks off the town from all of the outside land, while rips in reality have been created in remote parts of Hyrule. These rips are dangerous as anyone coming too close is sucked right in and vapourised, and these become places in need of sealing. A boy named Link living on his farm, is just close enough not to be blocked off by all the disasters. Little does he know that a fairy, named Star, is about to become his guide in a dangerous adventure to save hyrule. After aquiring weapons from a local dojo, Star leads him to the Shrine of Elements, where he finds the rod of elements, and as he finds all the Elemental Gems, gives him control over the elements, allowing him to seal these rips. But his challenge is much harder, as he finds these rips are not just holes...

The new name for Cloud of Darkness is now Rod of Elements, the old name not having any storyline. The game will have you slashing and puzzle-solving your way through 11 dungeons, the first four all have the Element Gems sealed inside them. Hyrule is the main land, and will have you returning now and then to reopen old areas to find new ones. There is more than one land (not telling how many) but using the rod of elements, changing something in one land, such as melting an iceberg or cooling some lava will have an effect on another - good or bad. luckily, you can counteract these so you can return to other areas. There are more special dungeon items, later after the first four dungeons, the next three dungeons are the most secret part of the game, you will hear almost nothing of this chapter.

EDIT 01/02/07
A few new functions added, mainly graphics, 1 weather effect, rain, using particles. the rain DOES hit the ground and DOES make splashes like in The Shadowgazer, but instead of a hundered objects slowing down the speed it's particles, though not as much difference. A light engine & clock engine also added, both working together with the lamp to create day/night transition and light rings around link and lamps at night, THE LIGHT ENGINE IS FINISHED. the clock however, needs a MC style back to it and MC style font. a ocarina engine has been started, although needs finishing, and instead of finishing it, i've been lazy and have been playing age of mythology instead. That's all for now (or is it? :P)

EDIT 24/01/07:
I have recently changed the FPS from 25 to 50, giving that there were some problems with shadow and grass overlays not being underneath link while rolling. this has been fixed.

I do need a logo for the game, and an icon, so if you want, check out this topic and it as what i want listed there.
