Text Invaders 0.9.2
==============
I've been busy for a long time so I haven't finished this yet, but it's playable, and it's pretty fun and you can customize the levels and make your own through the use of XML files (which was a pita to research but easy once I found out how, XML in VB6 is not well documented).
It's simple, you just use the arrow keys to move and spacebar to shoot, avoid the falling V's, they're bullets from the enemies (it may seem obvious but somehow my cousin who has a MS couldn't tell, :-\). After each level there's a shop where you can upgrade your ship. The levels file can be edited to change the difficulty, I'm working on loading all the XML files in the program directory and allowing the user to choose which one they want to play so that it's a lot easier.
Changelog:
0.9.3
- Loads all XML files in program directory
- This is sorta not done, but it works. Uninstall the previous version or delete text.xml if you don't want a duplicate levelset in your levelset menu.
0.9.2
- Explosions added
- Some code cleaning has begun, moving to more object oriented techniques now, but that's just engine stuff that no one sees. This only affects people trying to look at the source and make sense of it.
Downloads (http://imaginatix.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=15&Itemid=30):
Text Invaders 0.9.3 Installer (http://imaginatix.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_details&gid=7&Itemid=30) New!
Text Invaders 0.9.2 Source (VB 5/6) (http://imaginatix.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=6)
The URLs are kind of weird because I use a CMS and I want to keep track of the number of downloads.

-
Lol! How did you know my name?! Crazyee. lol.
-
This looks really great for being ascii only o.o
-
Well what I mean is I made all the things out of text, except the buttons obviously. I decided to make explosions be a jumble of random letters, whenever I get the time.
-
Yup, thats awesome. I've been a fan of it for a long time ;)

Yeah I know. I just meant that the ships look cool for being just characters XD. Also, the explosion jumble would rock.
-
Yup, you can say for sure he's pretty good at ASCII art.
-
That looks awsome in its own way, i cant belive how cool it looks, i cant wait to be able to download again just to try out this game!

lazy a$$ =D jk
-
Oh no it's just that I'm not sure if my client allows me to receive IMs from ppl not on my buddy list.
Oh I just uploaded version 0.9.2, with explosions. I'll update my site and this thread tomorrow, but if you look under downloads you can find it there. Instead of random text, the enemy just blows into pieces that fly away in random directions and fade out. Pretty spiffy if I do say so myself.

I added some more features and made version 0.9.3! Honestly, each 0.0.1 version(=add one feature) takes about an hour to make but I don't have time / get discouraged easily. In this version, it actually checks the directory for XML files and loads any files that are proper Text Invaders levelset files.
Download Here (http://imaginatix.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_details&gid=7&Itemid=30).
I haven't posted the source yet, and also it's not really done, but I just want to test it out a little bit, and see if anyone wants to make their own levelsets. It's really easy, just look at the files called 1.xml, 2.xml, or 3.xml inside the program directory. Note: You probably want to uninstall the old version because there was a file called text.xml which would throw off the ordering of Easy, Medium, Hard.
-
What did you add to it? I tried it out and I cant really notice a difference... No offense. ???
-
Like, when you're starting, there's options for easy, medium, and hard. And any other levelsets ifyou addyour own.
-
>;o!
Sorry, I didin't pay much attention.
Taht musti've tooken a long time setting the speeds and amounts.
Good Work! ;)
-
Not really, it took about 30 seconds to edit the xml files, which is why I made the levelsets external in the first place. I should probably modify the high scores too, since it's kind of weird to have hard and easy scores on the same list.
-
>;o, I thought it couldi've been much harder.
I have an idea. Its better to wait for a big realease in sections rather than realesing a new demo for every feature.
so having.
Demo 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, etc.
instead of demo 2.1.0, 2.1.1, etc.
It might work better. ;)

Looks coooooool.
