I'm not sure how or why this happened, but my PC won't run a lot of games that it used to run.
When I open up a game shortcut (a LOT of games, so specific names wouldn't really help), there will be a second of nothing happening, then I'll hear that sound that usually plays when you get an error/warning window, except there is no window, no message telling me why my games aren't working.
System stats, if helpful:
Intel Core 2 duo processor
nVidia Geforce 7950 gx2
2 gigs ram
Windows XP
I have a good computer, which can handle these things easily, so there must be some software problem. I have the newest nvidia drivers, and I have the newest version of directx. Help :(
Can anybody help?

did you do anything recently before this began happening?

Well the first time I ever had this happen, the first game I ever had this problem with, was when I installed Fable: The Lost Chapters; that's when I noticed it started happening to other games as well. It sucks, because I play gametap, and it seems to have affected almost every gametap game I have. I've uninstalled Fable: The Lost Chapters, but the problem is still there, so maybe it isn't the cause.
EDIT: Plus why would a game affect any other games? A microsoft game at that. Ugh, this sucks.
I'm thinking of reformatting sometime soon, and hopefully the problem will be gone, but reformatting is a pain in the ass.

you may want to try downgrading your drivers
