Title: Pokemon Crystal Legends
Post by: DJvenom on September 21, 2008, 01:03:55 pm
I was digging around some old CD's and flash drives I had when I stumbled upon an old Pokemon game I was making, so I decided to continue work on it.
Currently features walking, and day/night/morning engine. I know this doesn't brand it a Pokemon game, per se, but I will be adding all the functions soon. It's not quite as hardcore as 4swords' pokemon game, in terms of "emulating" gameplay. Once I get a text engine in I'll probably release a demo (source, and .exe)

It's being made in GM6.1 so until I get a hold of drewdelz on how to make 6.1 GM games playable on Vista, I'm afraid you'll just have to enjoy screenshots.

This isn't just going to be a remake either. All gym leaders' parties will be buffed and remixed to present a new challenge. Also introduced will be the Gameshark Guru, who will allow you to enter codes enterable in Gameshark for the GBC, yeilding results (Only official codes will be supported...) A small portion oh Hoenn will also be explorable, although very different looking in terms of geography, as in this game Hoenn will not have been fully modernized (Littleroot will have houses just being constructed) No intention on including any new pokemon from R/S/E but who knows. If I get a functioning database working for pokemon, I might add some.

That's it for now, and feel free to leave any questions here :)

Looks pretty cool and I'll be sure to play it. I like the sound of going to Hoenn though, which was something I was hoping to do in Diamond. :(

I love the GSC era man.

lol, I was called hardcore.  I was looking back into how a main character could have an object that would follow it.  If you try to walk through the object that is following you, as in the case of the Pikachu that follows you, on the real Gameboy Color if you are pressing the arrow keys down with full force you go right through otherwise there is a delay.  I think that the way to solve this would be to check the condition where up down left and right were not pressed before you get to a grid space because a delay for solidity would only really not happen if you didn't stop.  I guess the point of all this paragraph is that I figured out a good way to program is to write down logical statements about what the feature does that you want to include and then making the logical connections until it becomes feasible.

Anyway, if you want what I had done with the Game Maker version of my game, I can give you the source for that.  It has somethings that may look like a lot of extra, but meh.  The ledge jumping though would be cool for your game and if I observed it right, in Gold/Silver/Crystal, there is no delay when you jump off a ledge.

Good luck with your project though, lol.

If you want us to be able to play this game on Vista, take a look at this link:

Anyway, it's going to be awesome. Good luck.

Ah... The good old Gold/Silver games =D I just loved playing those games until late at night so I could catch night pokemon. Ah, there was so much to DO in that game.
Anyway, looks good, hope you get to making a battle engine too ;)

Oooh the GB pokemon games were the most appealing, I like! Hopefully there will be more soon :). How many was there after gold/silver/crystal? Like 255 or something? Well I like them better cause they're more original.

The good old days when they had Bulbasaur, Pikachu and some 'new' ones like totodile and hoothoot before they introduced hornybeaver and muffinarms (These pokemon may or may not exist, the original 151 were the most pokemon a pokemon could be to me, I have no idea what new ones are called, there may be too many new ones, maybe more is a good thing but where did they put all the old ones? Only available via trading? Ack!).

Anyways keep this up DJ, I dig the gameboy XD.

I have always loved pokemon mostly gold and silver, but I wonder what is the main difference between this and the original ones?
EDIT: apart from the mentioned ones, <.<

None really, I guess. Maybe I'll add some later. For now, none though.

GSC was my favourite era, although I dislike the graphics somewhat...

It looks good, I hope you can get somewhere with this.

Maybe remake Pokemon Gold/Silver using Sapphire/Ruby graphics? =P

Pokemon and Zelda are made by the same company, and if you have a handheld and are a nintendo fan, you'll most likely buy a Zelda game and a Pokemon game, they correlate, and Zelda fan games still outnumber those of pokemon.

Oh dear lord no. There are dozens of hacks and fan games that attempt that, most of them failing.

As much as I want a Gold/Silver remake, I really don't want to see it go next-gen that much, ESPECIALLY with those dreadful Ruby/Sapphire graphics.

XD yeah, I remember getting a GBA just for sapphire, after playing a friend's red about 3 years previously, and becoming addicted instantly. Then a few of my friends started talking zelda all the time, so I decided to get one of them, which ended up being LLTP GBA. I got hooked on that, and ever since I've played about 7 different zelda games.

I got hooked on zelda when I saw this game called "The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time" and a sword and shield on the cartridge, I loved it so much I decided to become a fan of the series.

I think I got into pokemon first because of the anime, then I got the game and that was darned fun, I had blue and my brother had red, few years later I had silver and he had gold, but that's as far as we went with pokemon games. I'd like to see a full length pokemon game with new original sprites and an updated battle system, but that's just me, I liked the gameboy ones, you could mix gb zelda sprites with pokemon sprites and it would sort of fit in. I doubt we'd want an ocarina of pokemon though XD.

It's good to see some Pokemon projects, there kind of a handful to get started though I've tried a number of times and kinda get to the point where  I have a walking engine and organizational system for the boxes and everything then I get overwhelmed by the small detail and how messy and not very well thought out my code is :\ Oh well maybe one of these times I'll just keep plugging on and make it somewhere :D Anyway looks good so far and good luck.

I care, :P whats wrong with the usual zelda crap, I don't have a preference between Zelda and Pokemon, I just want to see the difference to see if it worth to download the demo, I really don't want to see something exactly the same as Gold and Silver.
