Title: XFD at Fable 2's horrible DLC.
Post by: FISSURE on February 12, 2009, 09:50:14 pm
I know i'm late to the party, but it only adds some pointless items and all of 3 missions. Hopefully if they add more DLC they will concentrate on missions instead of some pointless potions and clothes. A few new clothes would be nice if the bulk of it were missions.

And ads a pointless that goes off of an option you pick at the end of Fable 2, i don't want to say since it's spoilers.

I heard about it from my brother; but he said there was a lot more to it than just that <_< Are you sure you've done everything the DLC expansion has to offer?

...You're judging it solely by it's description?

The DLC is just fine. There's a ton of !@#$% to do. Only 3 real missions, but there's tons of other stuff to do.

Also, you can
Show content
revive your dog.

So, what is the tons of things to do besides the 3 missions?

Am I the only one who's against DLC?  A game should include everything when you buy it.

It's being overused right now, but the idea is good. What if they want 1000+ characters, but they want it to come out in a reasonable amount of time. So they release it with only 100 characters, and over time come out with (free) character packs so eventually people can have all 1000+ characters without having to wait for them all to be added into the game before they even get to play it. The main problem with DLC is paying for it IMO.

DLC help add more to stories, more gameplay and such. If they wanted the DLC to be in the game normally many games would be delayed to put the stuff in.

But the problem with that is that not everything is *made* when the game is released :P

The idea is to further develop a game even after it's "completed", offering even more play time for players who have completed it. Theres a lot of free DLC out there too :p

-House of Secrets (Quite fun actually)
-The 3 Missions
-Knothole Island
-4 Clothes Sets
-Extra Items

I think that's it. I'll update it if I can remember

Yes, that's where Microsoft veered as a corperation.  They like money, unlike normal companies that want to give stuff away for free at their own expense.  I'm glad nobody else is like Microsoft.  >.<'

Although DLC is handled with the publisher and developers of the games, not so much the host. :P

Charging for DLC also is kind of required. The game is released, and the money comes into the companies. The money goes where it needs to (big video games are expensive to make, and until a game is released it's nothing but expenses. You have to make up these expenses before you even think of doing anything else) and then quite a bit of the (probably veeery little) remaining money will then be funnelled into other projects which will hopefully make even more money and so-on.

The only way to justify the extra time spent working on the extra content would be for it to bring in income. DLC doesn't usually bring in more people purchasing the actual game itself. Sometimes a game doesn't quite cover it's expenses, and the DLC needs to be pushed out in order to ensure the companies involved aren't left with less money then when the started.

Of course if the game allows it, charging for DLC isn't the only option. Selling advertising space in the game which gets updated from xbox live or whatever internet connection could also work if the content is extra maps for a game like...I dunno, Rainbow Six (this also helps maintain the servers everybody plays on) :P

Still, you have to appreciate that these companies kinda are currently trying to avoid bankrupting themselves ;)
