As you know in Ocarina of Time, Bongo Bongo was a boss in the Shadow Temple. He returns!!!

Please crit him! Also when critting, circle the errors.
(Yes that's ganondorf and majora.)
It's not for use right now okay?

ARGH! Blank space!
But pretty good!
-
Yeh I know there's blank space but Im doing all the bosses in the game (Excluding Rodrick). It was high time Bongo Bongo returned! His background was left so empty. I thought he deserved a better background. So he and Volvagia are returning
-
My mom once said that Bongo Bongo looked like a giant penis. Then again, she also thinks the Zoras look like aliens...
Regardless of that, nice work!
-
Im quite proud of Bongo Bongo. I thought I got the perspective just right for him. However Im not too happy with Volvagia (Which Im doing right now)

I think it is nice, as for the hands you can edit them from wall master sprites if there is any around here.

I did the hands taking them off Ramrock

I think he needs to be a lot bigger. Bongo Bongo is pretty huge in game. I also think he needs more definition in the muscles in his back. He's sort of slug looking right now, you know? You gotta beef him up! :P This is a GB styled Bongo Bongo I made. It's not really quite done. Parts of it are just edits of other sprites from the games, such as the hands, which need some serious work. I was never quite satisfied with it. Feel free to use it however you'd like, just credit me.

That is pretty sweet, SC! Nice job!
-
I shall redo the sprite so it's double the size.
EDIT: Tried enlarging then modifying and it looks dreadful
(Just for the record, I was trying to keep him small. But Im taking your advice on the muscles)
EDIT : I have attached the updated sheet. Including Volvagia (Dont want crit on him yet as he ain't ready). Crit the one which you find better

Scaling in a GB style game looks horrible :x actually, scaling in a SNES style game looks bad too :s

While you could definitely get away with smaller versions of all the OoT bosses, one thing you'd then have to do is make them less serious and less detailed. Look at 90% of the bosses from the GB games - you'll see bright colors with solid shading and a fairly simple design.
If you're going to stick to that size, you need to a) use brighter purple, like Sprite Collector's, and b) make the eye bigger. It's smaller than Link - players are going to waste a lot of arrows trying to hit that thing.
In my opinion, an edit of Sprite Collector's is the best route - some bosses in GB Zelda are a larger size, and in this case I think you can get away with it.

Gotcha, I'll use the same colour as SC. And I'll see what I can do with the eye.
(Also, normally I can scale quite well when modified but this sprite just doesn't want to work.)
EDIT : Attached are all three of my efforts. Could you guys tell me which is better
A - Following Sprite Collector
B - Improved Muscles
C - Original Sprite

I was looking at this thread yesterday and decided to try making my own GB-style Bongo Bongo. It didn't turn out nearly as good as I had hoped, but I think it looks decent. You can use it if you want. (just give credit)

Dude that's awesome, I may use it if I can't get mine to GB standards.
-
his looks more gb and more BongoBongo than yours because: his flower is actually the head, your flower sits in the ass

...Damn. Though the wrong position of the flower doesnt mean its less GB
Im going to give up on Bongo Bongo and use SC's. I find it pointless to start again
So start crit-slapping volvagia
-
I think the Volvagia looks fine, personally. Could you maybe show a fully assembled Volvagia to see what it looks like complete?

It's still to be decided whether he flies in this one
-
I see.... well it wouldn't really be Volvagia without flying. After all, that was part of the challenge in fighting him. Waiting for him to come within range of the Megaton Hammer, dodging his attacks when he was flying...
At least, that's how I see it.
-
In the OoT boss fight, you never interact with him while he's flying (aside from shooting arrows, which could really be left out without much loss to gameplay). So what you can do is this:
1) Have him fly up and off-screen.
2) Draw a shadow of it flying overhead. The shadow would move around the arena, chasing Link a bit as in OoT.
3) To have the fire-breathing portion, have a jet of flame come from off-screen in the upwards direction, hitting the ground overtop of the part of the shadow corresponding to its head.
4) Have rocks fall around the arena while this is going on.
5) The head shadow eventually finds its way to a hole, and Volvagia descends from overtop of the head shadow, entering the hole. As it enters, the corresponding parts of the body and shadow disappear as they reach the hole, the shadow moving steadily along the shadow path until nothing is left.
And then the rest proceeds as normal, with Volvagia popping out of another hole, etcetera.
Because its body is so snakelike, you could get away with just four shadow sprites - head, body, tail, and a corner-shaped body sprite for when it turns in mid-flight. And since shadows are just one colour, this wouldn't be very hard.

That makes perfect sense, Nabeshin! Great ideas! when will there be a Zelda Future update?
-
*Hugs Nabeshin!* You've got a double choc cookie!!!
-
is this going to be continued? it is really cool
-
Well bongo bongo is done, volvagia is waiting for crits. Im working on uni work as well so most things are on hold

I think it could be a bit thicker, the width of a tile at least, and the head should be larger. With GB style, you can afford to be a bit silly with the proportions - the fights are all about fun in GB, and the player won't be having fun if they're trying to hit something too small. And for that matter, I think all the bosses could be made larger, even Ganondorf.
Check out LttP as well for boss size inspiration, since GB is in many ways a shrunken version of LttP.
tl;dr: bosses should always be noticeably bigger than Link.

First off, which one are you talking about? Secondly, didn't know you could be silly about proportions. Thirdly, Ganondorf stays the same. Look at Veran. She was only a couple of pixels bigger than Link. Fourthly, I agree about making the battles fun. Finally, I was trying to keep the game in proportion. Even Rodri. And yes that does mean he's a sort of giant. Speaking of him, I fully sprited his corrupt form a few weeks ago.

Volvagia.

A bit cartoony, I mean. Volvagia might be the right size proportionally, but the boss battle wouldn't be very fun with it at that size. The player needs something to look at, and something to hit, too. Look at Aquamentus from OoS and Pumpkin Head from OoA for an idea of what I mean. Or look at the Pokemon sprites from RBY compared to now, which are all great examples of throwing proportion out the window. Don't be afraid to make some bosses look a little silly, I guess is my point.

these are really good? Are you going to do beast ganon or barinade? Ghoma perhaps?
