Entertainment / Did the Zora evolve into the Rito?
« on: September 29, 2008, 03:37:34 pm »
I'm not sure if this belongs in G&E or Debate, so I'm just going with my gut instinct.

So. One of the most common debates I see on GameFAQs. Yet I dont recall ever having seen it here. WHY NOT?

Many people believe that the Rito are actually the decendants of the Zora. There would seem to be a great deal of evidence for this. Likely the most obvious bit, is the fact that the sage you visit who Medli eventually replaces is a Zora, and mentions that Medli is her decendant (I believe? It's been a while since I played. anyone want to verify this?)

Many also question how the Zora could so rapidly evolve into Rito, and WHY. The most likely reason why is because they could not survive the fresh water of the great sea. In OoT, they lived in salt water, and you most likely know that in real life, a salt water fish can't live in fresh water. As for HOW, I point out Valoo, who's scales are required in order to gain flight for the Rito. I believe his scales are what allowed the Zora to evolve into the Rito. Magic, I suppose. Perhaps the gods took pity on the hopeless Zora race and helped "re-invent" them. Hey, crazier stuff happens in the Zeldaverse. Zelda taking place on an ocean is pretty crazy on it's own.

My first 3 or 4 playthroughs, I would always just burn him to death over and over with Din's Fire. Course, before starting, you had to bring a green potion to replenish your magic halfway through the fight. Sure, it was !@#$% cheap, but Dark Link scared me XD

After I got a little older and did my first No Health Expansion playthrough(no collecting Heart containers, pieces, or fairys), I realized Dark Link has the same amount of health as you do. This was the first time I fought him fairly, using the sword, I think. This is a really fun battle. I kind of regret always beating him so cheaply on my previous playthroughs, now.

Entertainment / Funny Zelda game experiences!
« on: September 27, 2008, 04:35:00 pm »
In this topic, we talk about amusing experiences or happenings we've had playing Zelda games!

I remember the first time I played OoT...it was rather scary for me. The redeads especially. Redeads scared the !@#$% !@#$% out of me. They still do, a little bit. The shadow temple, oh god the shadow temple....*shudders* that gave me nightmares. And the Wallmasters and Floormasters! Those things made me reeeeeally nervous, even if I never really had a problem avoiding them.

And after I first became Adult Link, I read in Nintendo Power that the Forest Meadow would have Moblins in it. For some reason, this scared me immensely. I was unable to pick the game up for a week until I realized I was being stupid. XD

I remember the first time I played Minish cap, as I was fighting the final boss, I said, out loud, "Die !@#$%!"...

That's what I get for boiling that poor chicken alive...

I also put pickles, mushrooms, eggs, bacon, tomatoes, shrimp, butter, cheese, carrots, radishes, like a half-dozen different spices, and marshmallows in my ramen. It's pretty tasty, cept' for the bone!

Debates / Employee Drug Testing
« on: September 13, 2008, 07:37:27 am »
Employers frequently perform routine drug tests on prospective employees... but is that justifiable?

One could argue that yes, it is. By making sure an employee isn't using drugs, they can be more assured about performance. Nobody wants employees with impaired abilities, right?

On the other hand, one could also argue that it's none of an employer's business what an employee does in his or her spare time. As long as they come to work on time and get the job done, what does it matter? Not to mention, there's evidence that the type of drug tests most commonly used by employers have a certain rate of false positives.

So how do you all feel about the issue? Is it right for employers to require drug tests?
