GM will not work on any Linux distribution, it relies on DirectX, which is a proprietary software by Window$.

Other Discussion / Recomended DS Flash Cart?
« on: October 24, 2007, 04:42:54 am »
Which DS Flash Cart would you recommend? I'm not going to lie, I'd use it for for files of questionable legality, does anyone here have experience with them?

Discussion / What language should I learn?
« on: October 24, 2007, 04:35:12 am »
I want to leave GM, since I think I'm ready to learn an advanced language and I'm not too dependent on GM yet, but I'm not sure which language to learn. I'd prefer one that can run on multiple platforms, such as Mobiles, Linux, and perhaps DS/GBA.

I'm guessing one of the C's would be most appropriate because they're more supported.

Suggestions? Links? Info? :D

Is this being in GM6 or 7? I hope it's the latter, because this laptop stuck me on Vista.

Still looks brilliant! :D

Well I never released an example of this, but since you mentioned muh name and it's in muh game, I'll share the theory.  :P

But I must know, will Link only be lifting pots, or other stuff as well? If just pots then you should have the pot sprites built into the lifting / carrying sprites, otherwise it could take some hairy code to make the sprites match Link with a global lifting system.

Anyways start by using collision_line() to check for a pot directly in front of Link when you press the lift button while holding a movement key. If there is one, check if it's within range, and if so, save the id to a global variable and deactivate it.

It's best to use "dummy" objects or just sprites to simulate the carrying, so you don't end up with collision problems.

'Will explain more after your response. :-*

I've got it working, everything works fine, but, to make the game only deactivate the pot in I'm grabbing, is to, as you said, save the ID and deactivate it. How would I go about saving it? I know it would be something like.. id=global.pot but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help,

It was funny until the Marge and Homer thing started in Alaska, then it became way too sentimental.

Bloody excellent show, brilliant writing, funny, Zach Braff plays a great role. I think we all in someway can relate to him, because he's so.. 'obscure' for lack of a better word.

Nice, I like the blending.

I've been trying to find a good way to handle picking up and throwing pots in Zelda style, I've tried various of my own methods, which made more problems than solutions. I did find a good example that worked well(It might've been made by Goodnight, but I'm not sure), but that was back when I first started programming and I had no chance of a successful Zelda game, I've since lost the file.

So if you have any good theory, code or examples for picking up/throwing objects I'd appreciate it if you could show me.

If you need more information just say so.
EDIT: I'm using GM7.  ;)
