Coding / SMF forums help & advice
« on: December 22, 2013, 10:16:03 pm »
I notice ZFGC still uses SMF as do I.

I have a forum here that will be used for my game I'm working on, but I'd like to make it more unique and integrated into a website.

I like what ZFGC has done, and I've looked through the SMF mods, and there isn't a whole lot and a great many mods are outdated.

Was just wondering what sort of tips/advice and or help I could get. It's been ages since I did any editing of forums so I think I forgot everything xD

I agree with the above.
Also, I've been a member since 2004 and still see alot of original members even after all these years.
Other communities just feel like constant recycling of members.

Hi Sabooru. You can find the latest version of my map project here:

You have permission to use my map in your game - with credit of course. I'd also appreciate it if you sent me some details of the project when it progresses. I've always wanted to see this used in a game.

That's truly impressive. I hope someone does use it cause that looks like it took quite some time. It's been awhile since I messed with any 2D stuff, does this have to be separated into pieces or do you use it in one piece as is?

Anyone want to try it out with me? I posted it about 10 days ago.

I think Z-Targeting is just boring, and outdated.
Twilight Princess is also pretty outdated now both graphically and mechanically (was designed for Gamecube).
I wouldn't mind seeing a parry system implimented instead of just spamming the attack button.
What you have looks good, and like it has taken much effort; so I think it would be more of a payoff to not limit yourself to 2003 hardware standards.
I mean you can do what you want, it is your project. Just putting my two cents in.

Id say as long as the levels are custom if he just uses WW textures it should be fine

Well that will certainly be alot less risky, but there is a texture pack for OOT roms done in TWW style that he could reuse for his project.

Audio / MIDI playback that doesn't sound like !@#$

If you haven't heard of it already, what this software does is reference a new library of your choice for playback of midis in real-time.

I personally use SGM-V2.0, but you can use whatever you fancy.

Is this engine custom or if not, what are you using?

I'd recommend recruiting a 3D modeller to create content for you instead of using TWW rips, since that is seen as a greater violation of copyright to Nintendo than a free fan-game by itself.

Meh, I'll only buy a Nintendo console if I have to for Zelda. I'm a PC guy all the way, and would prefer if consoles weren't involved in the mix.

Nintendo showed some interesting, impressing and innovating things, but at the same time left me with disappointment.

I expected more discussion on the hardware powering this machine, and the capability of playing media on it other than games.
