Discussion / Your ideal "ZFGC" dev team?
« on: March 03, 2011, 08:36:12 PM »
The idea of this is simple; If you had to make a team of ZFGCers to make a game, who would you choose and why? You can't choose yourself, so choose wisely ;3

This is my ideal team:

Programming: Infini - Could sneeze and make a fun game :P Nuff said.
Programming: therabidwombat - Very skilled coder and "Fini' approved!"
Graphics: DJvenom - Makes some of the most beautiful sprites I've seen when he's put his mind to it :D
Sound: tssf - While remakes/demakes are his strong suit, he makes some pretty nice original compositions
Writing: Dantz - This is a no brainer; Dantz is the king of writingz

Out of curiosity, anyone know of a writeup regarding the stat systems of Diablo II, Castlevania SotN (or other modern Castlevania game) defining what each stat does, and how it affects attack, health, defense, etc? It's primarily for studying purposes, but I can't find any good documentation on any of it. There are some good ones for games like Final Fantasy, but that's a little more complex than I'm looking for.

Discussion / Anyone have my really old pseudo-3d Chocobo game I made in GM?

Out of curiosity D:

It was a remake of the minigame that came with Final Fantasy 8. I miss it D:

I'm no good with math, so this definitely perplexes me.

Lets say I have an object with a position of 128,256 and I want it to move towards another object with a position of 64x32 with a speed of 4 pixels per frame. How exactly do I determine the amount of x it must travel vs the amount of y it must travel to maintain a speed of 4 pixels per frame (in such a way that it's moving exactly the same speed as if it were just moving along the y axis or just the x axis respectively)?

Sure I could cop out and simply subtract from x and y each frame, but that would look really weird, and it would completely ignore the speed factor.

Insight on this crazy "probably needs sqr's" dilemma would be much appreciated ;p

Discussion / World Artist?
« on: September 04, 2010, 03:43:07 AM »
Anyone have infini's World Artist zip handy? His links are down for it and it's hard to tame him enough to have him send it :P

The filename on his site (Binaryphoenix) is
a6afe4ae2b8554c5a1dc4c5cb8f445db.zip

EDIT:

It may be bandwidth issues for Fini on BinaryPhoenix. It's downloading a lot further than normal.

EDIT 2:

88% then out of bandwidth. Definitely need a mirror for this <_<;;

Graphics / Proper NES Palette
« on: August 26, 2010, 08:07:45 AM »
Figured I'd upload this for the sake of it being used.

I arranged the image, but I can't take credit for unlocking all of those color registers; that belongs to ahefner and this handy dandy little palette file.

Enjoy.

I find it a tad bizarre... I've made an app that utilizes openAL and GME (Game Music Emulator), however when I package it (libgme.dll for GME, OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll for openAL), I get an exception error. Doesn't do it when I run either the source or the exe, however when I bundle it (.rar, or .zip, or w/e with the above files) it spits out the error. Makes it a bit difficult to send it to people :P

Anyone have any ideas?

O.o...

I found a somewhat old project I was working on-

http://yoroshii.org/HolyDiver.exe

^My remake of Holy Diver for NES.... Never finished all of the players actions (or even streamlined them), but yeah...

Anywho; post your abandonware. I'm curious :P

Entertainment / Stupid overhyped piece of crap games :(
« on: June 13, 2010, 10:04:59 PM »
I've come to the conclusion that over-hyped games are always lackluster if you play them waaay after the hype's done.

I just got No More Heroes for Wii...

Writing = good. It's comical.

Visuals = !@#$% ass ugly. Goddamn, it looks like the playstation puked up a city and the Wii polished it with a shitty shading system :\

Gameplay = WHAT THE !@#$%? When the hell is it acceptable to have clunky controls and shitty camera angles!? This game would have been AWESOME 15 years ago when the playstation was taking charge, but now... this !@#$% isn't acceptable :\ The game plays as if it were programmed by a monkey on crack.

:\ I'm very disappointed, and even more disappointed that 99% of Wii users hyped this game up as the best thing since sliced bread... Ffff.

Graphics / Some random caricatures
« on: June 10, 2010, 07:40:52 AM »
Well, been bored... Working on new Surface stuff (yeah; like I said, it's not dead D:), and realized I need a new tablet for the work I'm planning on completing for it :p On top of that, I need some much needed practice in speed drawing for my animations.

The result? I started doing caricatures for people for $1 on facebook :P I figure I'll post the end result on here, because they're still pretty nifty to look at :P... I figure it'd be best to share the photos elsewhere, so here they are:

Stephen Gazzard:

Ashley Fairweather:

Jordan Chewning:

Me!:

They're fun stuff.

Now for the shameless plugging :P

If you'd like to check out the group itself, click here. I'm not doing these for free though because it's all going towards getting that tablet :P Either way, it's probably going to be somewhat hilarious seeing me make well over 2000 photos in (hopefully) a short period of time. All of the details you need to get one of these is on the group page. Feel free to peruse. I'll also do avatar sized versions if requested.

Entertainment / Castlevania Judgement
« on: May 25, 2010, 09:55:49 PM »
So anyway; I was a skeptic about this game. I thought it was going to be absolute crap but I was pretty wrong.

The game is pretty fun. It's not a standard fighting game as I had initially thought; where you're fixed on a 2d plane stuck doing combos for moves. Instead, the attack system is more like Super Smash Bros, and you control your player in 3d space. You have one major finishing move, and a series of other attacks that vary player to player depending on thier character's native game's moves.

I decided to play this game for a "few minutes" today thinking I was going to try to sleep before work, and ended up playing it for 4 hours up until the time I had to get ready for work. It ended up being that entertaining :P

The character's aren't as well balanced as I had hoped though. For example, Maria is AWESOME against characters like Golem and Eric, however she's horribly outmatched when it comes to facing someone like Simon or Trevor. Shanoa has an ability that lets her zip around the field at a speed that's faster than opponents attacks, making her pretty close to immortal when it comes to that. To counterbalance the immortality from that move, it drains your special bar. Another flaw is that each character's special moves are generally wasted from them being way too slow to execute, making them more frustrating than anything else.

Otherwise, I'd say if I had to rate this game, I'd do it in 2 ways... One as being a Castlevania game, and the other as being a normal game.

As a Castlevania game, it's a 3/10.
As a normal game, it's a 7/10.

WiFi Connect play is possible too, so if anyone else has it lemme know.

Check it out - www.google.com :p You can !@#$% play PACMAN on it :P

That's some pretty win.

Maybe it's just me, but does the game seem less skill based than usual? In almost all of the MK games (save DD, never played it.), there are ways to avoid certain disasters, and it was about cutting corners and saving time... This one doesn't seem like that. Seem's like there's less skill involved, and it's more about "getting lucky enough to not get hit by 1 of the overly-abundant powerps".

:| I dislike being able to own MK64 and MKDS, but sucking at MKWii do to a string of 8 kart-stopping powerups in a row. Certain powerups don't even seem to affect the other CPU players at all, especially the Blooper (which is a powerup that messes up the human ability of "seeing the screen")

!@#$% bugs yo >;(
