Updates / Wiki projects!
« on: May 05, 2013, 05:45:25 pm »
Hey guys,

I'm sure you've aaaalll noticed the Wiki by now (I hope, haha!)
We're looking to fill this baby up with our projects and resources.  It isn't as streamlined right now as our current CMS is, but I'd like to ask for all of your help in getting some of our projects on there.  Basically all you have to do is take some information about your project, along with some screenshots and such and create a wiki page for it!

As an example, take a look here:

Obviously you don't include Staff Commentary on your page because that is a Featured Project thing.  However, your page is yours to control as long as you follow to some standards:

1. You must provide screenshots
2. You must provide an overview of your project
3. Keep it clean! Any rules that apply to the forum also apply to the wiki!

Other than that, we really aren't too picky about this.  I'll be trying to move some projects over myself, but your page may or may not come out how you want it to.  So please, consider moving your project over to the wiki!  Do it for the children :)

I decided to see how well my effects pedal records to my computer and recorded the intro to Washington is Next.  Came out quite good, I was kind of impressed by the quality xD

I got a little out of sync at one point and when I finished I kinda just well..stopped, which sounds kinda funny xD

If you don't know the song, this is it:

Code / Rules for code submission
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:53:22 pm »
As stated in the rules and guidelines for KoT:

5. Do not (DO NOT D:) post code submissions in the code board.  This board is purely to organize who’s working on what.  You may post a submission thread (and you should), but do not put your entire code base in it.  Use this thread for help and such.  Snippets are fine.  Keep full code in your git branch.

As said above, only make a submission thread to tell us what you're working on and to get help for your code.  We do not want full code submissions in here, that's what the repo is for.

Code / Repository
« on: March 22, 2013, 03:51:23 pm »
If you are interested in contributing to code, please fork and clone the following repo:

Create a fork and then clone the fork to your machine using tortoise git.  When you make a change that you want to be pushed to the repo, push it to yours first and then send us a pull request.  The code will be reviewed before deciding if it will be included in the release.

The most up to date branch for King-of-Thieves is Development.  This is what you should be getting your code from.  Please confirm that you are able to run the game before contributing code.

Documentation for what you will need to begin work is attached and will be slowly integrated into the wiki for a more complete doc.

Code / Setup and configuration
« on: March 20, 2013, 07:29:14 pm »
I want to get the people who are interested in coding ready to go.  The code is going to be released within the next few days, so we're going to want you guys setup ahead of time.  Please do the following:

1. Download a copy of Microsoft Visual C# 2010

2. Download XNA Game Studio 4.0

3. Create an account on Github and forward us your username

4. Setup Git

5. Get Tortoise Git

Once you have all this setup, you'll be ready to contribute to our codebase.

Updates / Staff Promotions!
« on: March 10, 2013, 03:48:49 pm »
Ok!  So, you guys should notice some changes in staff.  I'd like to welcome three new people to the staff:

Mirby, as our newly hired Journalist!
Walnut, as a global moderator!
And last, LorentzChronon as our technical administrator!

You may be wondering about the last one.  "Huh? Who's that guy?"  Lorentz is a very good friend of mine, who Star and I
trust quite a bit.  We have taken time to think about who would be the most fit for this position and have decided that
Lorentz is the man for the job!  With him on board, I can assure you that ZFGC is in good hands.

Congrats to our new staff members!

Management / Story Pass:THIRD ACT
« on: February 19, 2013, 03:54:39 pm »
Alright, here is where we'll be discussing the Zora arc of the story.

Currently we know that the high members of the Zora family are kidnapped and are at war with the Zolas...and uhh...that's it.

And this is what the wiki says about Zoras:

The traders of Hyrule, they have been responsible for maintaining the water passageways. They house their cog in the Lake Hylia Temple ,their most sacred grounds. They are stuck in a conflict with the River Zolas, who have kidnapped the heirs and invaded Lake Hylia

Friendly & Neutral / [Troll'd]Oreo Andare Da Hylia
« on: February 12, 2013, 02:30:27 pm »
Name: Oreo
Age: late 20's, early 30's
Appearance: Fancy white robes with a hood
Race: quarter Gerudo, 3 quarters Hylian

Description: Rarely seen by anyone other than those brave enough to venture to Hyrule Castle Town's rooftops.  Although he comes from a wealthy family, he's been known to assist anyone in need regardless of their social status.  His means of doing so?  Not exactly the most ethical.  Pick pocketing anyone and everyone is part of his game, as is silently assassinating those who are considered a "problem."  He usually does the later from the shadows, and at night.  Should Link catch him in the act (note: you do not see him assassinate anyone.  He'll be chilling on a rooftop or something until you get close), he'll take a leap off a building and vanish into the shadows.  Should Link be able to catch him after this, he'll teach Link a thing or two, but not before giving him some trouble! *will have a side quest posted for this*

A very unknown character in Hyrule.  Those who know of him are either a very close friend or a very important enemy.  Rumors spread among those who have heard of him.  Some say he was raised on a mountain top by an eagle.  Other think he's secretly the post man.  Whatever the case may be, he's cruel to his enemies and kind to those who need his assistance.  However, do not cross him or you may find yourself on his list of targets.

King of Thieves / Small announcement
« on: February 04, 2013, 02:10:58 pm »
So I just wanted to mention that I've been coding my butt off on the core engine for this and as of last night, it's pretty damn close to being ready for community contribution.  I need to finalize some map stuff, but once that's done, I think we can open the code up to the public!

Oh, and collisions.  Collisions can go !@#$% themselves.

Feedback / ZFGC, tell us what you hate!
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:44:21 pm »
As some of you may know, there are some plans to revamp this place a bit.  Since you are the users, we are not going to make all the judgements on what should be changed ourselves.  As such, we're asking you what you like and hate about this place.  What can we do to improve the layout?  What functionality do you like and dislike?  What parts of the site are confusing, ambiguous, redundant etc?

Hit us with your hardest, we'll take everything into consideration!

Updates / Return of Project of the Month
« on: January 01, 2013, 06:59:20 pm »
We've decided to bring back Project of the Month!  Except now it's become the Featured Project, and will have a 3 month spotlight period.  What this means for you guys as developers is more time to show off your project while it has the spotlight.

So, to kick off the start of the first iteration of ZFGC's Featured Project, we're featuring Martijn's Horn of Balance!  For details on this one, see the Wiki article!

This will eventually be linked to on the front page...once we figure out how to make said change.

Coding / Something you SQL people should like
« on: November 30, 2012, 05:06:15 am »

A little something I wrote up about a year ago.  Enjoy :P

EDIT: Also, as this is open source, feel free to create your own branch and submit your changes.  If I like em enough, I'll merge them into the master branch.

Mini Games / [Submission]Zeere's Challenge
« on: November 21, 2012, 02:55:15 am »
Challenge 1: Attempt to strike down Zeere 3 times in 1 minute.  Striking down will require the player to parry his attacks with the shield and then quickly striking with 3 slashes.
Cost: 15rupees

Challenge 2: Attempt to strike Zeere down 5 times before he strikes you down once.
Cost: 15 rupees
Requires Roc's Cape

Zeere can attack as well as dodge the player and he will do this quite often!  He can perform a 1-2-3 combo, which will knock you down on the 3rd strike if not blocked (this is what you must parry with the shield to knock him down).  He can also charge at you and vanish, then reappear in a random spot and charge into you quickly (alla dragon ball z!).  You can parry this but he has a 50% chance of recovering or you can just roll away. He can also very quickly dash behind you and knock you down instantly if you don't roll away.  This is his most dangerous attack due to its speed and is only used in the second challenge.  This attack is similar to the persuit slash, which is what Link gets for winning the second challenge.  The prize for the first challenge is a piece of heart.  Each subsequent victory in both challenges will give 20 rupees or a secret seashell.
