Zelda Projects / Re: The Legend of Zelda A Hero`s Destiny

I really like the tile-work you did (makes the world feel like it could turn into something explorable), it complements Sahittam's engine features well. Not too sure of the story yet; it's one of those too early to tell what the story is going to morph into.

It's sad to see something like this end, but thank you Team Dekunutz for the work that went into the project. Like Miles07 said, hopefully this will assist others in the creation of continued and/or new ideas.

While I can't speak to the previews you may have, the initial image you posted could use some work. It has glaring pixel artifacts and the lack of blending around the subtitle "A Hero's Destiny" seems kind of sloppy; e.g., if you made that in MSPaint you would have been able to have it transparently placed to where it wouldn't look like it was placed in a rectangular box like that.

Otherwise, welcome to the forums. I saw in your user title description that you are into Game Maker. There are people in the Coding boards who can help you with that if you need it. Oh, though, are you making the project in LTTP, Minish Cap, or some other style? There are a lot of graphical resources too here which may assist you in aspects of your project creation.

Updates / Re: Website UI Changes
« on: April 24, 2013, 05:05:42 PM »
When you mention general thematic changes, are you referring to how for themes like Super Mega Goron how the site's theme is Midnight Revival - to where you'd be making it where the site had the theming of Super Mega Goron. Or were you referring to new themes being brought to ZFGC that are going to be released in additional to your website user-interface changes?

Either way, best of luck with the stuff and thank-you for your work on this.

The recent updates of yours have been really neat and well-done. It all looks solidly Zelda, congratulations on your work so far and best of fortunes going forward with this.

A character competition isn't something difficult to have - i.e., it follows a set formula and works itself to completion. The main difficulties with the last competition were the initial concern about the number of participants (which was solved by allowing someone multiple entries, and increasing the length of time for people to come up with ideas) and where topics would sometimes not be posted right away (which could be solved by having more than one person able to post topics so that the burden of doing so wouldn't fall on that one person).

I guess my point is that if you really wanted to have another character competition, why not just do some quick planning, maybe talk to Mirby about helping you and promoting the event on ZFGC given that she's a journalist, do the setup, and then as mentioned let it work itself to being complete. Any of the stylistic details you might want to have to make this character competition unique could be figured out between the hyping up and the start of the competition; from both staff involvement and community contribution.

There might be more interest from everyone too in terms of kicking the event off as the event isn't directly in the immediate shadow of the last character competition.

- create/monitor list of useful/helpful engines, making sure to have a copy of the source here
- promote coding/template/engine practices that make an effort to be usable/helpful for others
- have contests that challenge people to code things like game features that haven't been coded before
- while full-scale engines can be considered like projects, make an effort for them to be in the Coding boards instead

- emphasize dungeon design and collaboration, especially to where those dungeons could be incorporated into fangames

Entertainment / Re: What are you currently listening to?

Ha, Frozenfire I watched all the episodes of Sword Art Online. I kind of wish that the story had been lengthened compared to the graphic novels. It was disappointing how the main premise of the show only really held for about 13 episodes, but then again the show broke down a lot into having a harem of one-time characters. The boss battles were good though, especially the Kobold Lord (strategy and first boss) and the Skull Reaper (overwhelming destructive power, Heathcliff looking badass).

Oh, and here is what I have been listening to more recently. I would probably dance like this if I tried:

I'm confused, why does this halt the plans? I mean, if you identified it and observed that changing it does the hashing - doesn't that solve the vulnerability in a one-time fix?

Zelda Projects / Re: [DEAD] The legend of Zelda 3D Flying Rooster
« on: February 23, 2013, 01:46:55 PM »
I'mma bump it because it's the best Zelda (or even 3D) game I've seen in Game Maker.

If Drandula has stopped making it, maybe some of us could find someone else who would be happy to start it up again?
What has been made so far is just simply amazing, and I'd hate to see it sit around and die. I, (like many others) think that I can really see this going somewhere huge if we could attach some story and add a few more things to the engine.

If anyone else has Game Maker and is interested in messing around with his 3D example...

I thought I would mention it too because I didn't see it clearly in this topic, but Drandula actually released the source to Flying Rooster in another topic. This is to say that if someone else wanted to start it up again they probably could although they should give him credit for his work on the base engine. The topic with the source code is here: http://zfgc.com/forum/index.php?topic=38910.0 (it seems different from the source links that you provided)

Coding / Re: Textboxes
« on: February 21, 2013, 01:55:06 AM »
While the Pokemon text engine stuff I did had a lot of neat features, it was really hindered by the limitations of the free version of Game Maker. The link in the topic to it probably refers to the old resource system on the site, if you need me to reupload it I could although the version on the new project system under Tutorials might be that same version.

Yes that would be great if you could provide an .exe as I don't use/have GM anymore. Also maybe a little explanation of how you did it ?
Thanks

I would do that, but I really don't understand how that could help you out. The .exe would just demonstrate how the end result of how the text is displayed, and given that you want to do something in language beyond Game Maker - the explanation would be for something that could be implemented differently and/or possibly more efficiently in another language. It wouldn't be applicable to what you're trying to do.

Feedback / Re: The Calender is broken again.
« on: February 09, 2013, 06:11:36 PM »
If you go to www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?action=calendar you get an invalid year value. This can probably be fixed by going to Administration Center > Calendar > Calendar Settings and checking to see what value is in the Maximum Year (if it is less than 2013 trying to display the 2013 calendar will produce the error), and then changing the Maximum Year to something greater than or equal to 2013.

Updates / Re: Stepping down

So some of you will have noticed that lately I've been about as active on these forums as an alligator on a warm day. Simply put, I just don't have the time to dedicate that this place deserves! Why? I have a full time job, my University Course, a Dissertation, I help run the computing society here, and I am a student partner with Microsoft. All very demanding jobs, and I just don't have time to juggle them all.

I thought alligators liked warm weather because they are cold-blooded - or maybe I am thinking about crocodiles, or maybe I don't understand British metaphors. Anyway, life can be hectic and trying to divide your brain up amongst many tasks only leaves one too stressed and tired with no lasting joy for the accomplishments of any of them. But to that end, good luck with getting the life stuff in order.

Coding / Re: NDS coding

That looks pretty neat. Not sure of your implementation without seeing the source code, but I liked how you want multiple background layers like how the actual games have it (as opposed to just having a flat single layer).

Do you have any additional mockups or in-game screenshots, and out of curiosity what software/tool are you using to make this game?

Feedback / Re: Why can't we make new posts in the tutorials section?
« on: December 23, 2012, 11:59:02 PM »
Even when the tutorials section was operative, it did not have a surge of people doing things with it. If anything, if someone wants to post a tutorial, why not use the Wiki (which has the added benefit of allowing multiple people to work on tutorials together)?
