Gates is going to be eating those words when Sony picks up some speed.
Then I'm gonna laugh.
allow me to explain what most people like to call a 'vicious cycle'
a console will not sell well without games
games will not be developed for a system that does not sell well
so you see, strong initial sales help to push more games into development for that system, which in turn generate more sales
alternately: poor initial sales push more games into development for other systems, which in turn detracts from sales
Too look at the numbers, the Wii outsold the PS3 by almost 8:1 in 2006 (Nintendo met goal of 4 million units sold, Sony failed to reach .5 million) while the 360 leads the Wii by about 2.5:1 (with approx 10 million sold). This gives both the Wii and the 360 a large advantage over the PS3 and makes it especially difficult for the PS3 to 'pick up some speed'. It isn't impossible, but it certainly isn't easy...
On that note, it is far too early to call the PS3 a failure as none of the big flagship games have been released for it and it has only been out for 2 months, that is not enough time to judge the winner of an entire console generation that will likely last 5 years. Heck, people counted the GCN out due to poor sales, but thanks to the 360's early launch most sales figures put it ahead of the Xbox in total sales...
