U know im kinda wonderin why there has never been a ZFGC contest where u win a domain name...
and im kinda pissed that u hav to be at ZFGC for a certain amount of time to enter a contest!

Why domain names?  I mean, you would have to have a really good use for it.  Also, with certain contests, it is sometimes good to exclude people who are new because they do not have the skills currently or they are just getting into the contest advantageously.  I do not think that all contests are like this though.

well for instance someone might want a free domain name for their website because they dont have enough money to afford one (like me)
ZFGC does not know what skills someone has for instance if someone has been to alot more fangame websites before this one @#$% they just might be bettr than any other @#$%ing person here

Well, I cannot say that it is impossible that someone on the outside coming here could be good, in fact, it is likely due to a lot of users here not being able to make fangames anymore out of laziness; that, and a lot of the users who came here were fan boys and not fan game makers at the beginning.  I assume the way awards are allocated here is in a way that returns the benefit to the forum itself or to the users in a way that influences them to remain here.

Actually the main reason contests are limited to people with a higher post count is simply to stop a lot of new people registerting for the contests and then never coming through with anything. Chances are if you ask you will be accepted.

As 4Sword said, domain names are a pointless award as you have to have a very specialised reason for having one (eg. Wanting to set up your own site). It would be useless offering one if only one person who enters actually needs one. We usually choose more generalised prizes that anyone can use (usually suited to game-development, keeping with the theme of this site), you may even be able to swap one of the prizes for something of similar monitary value if you ask the organiser.

i can see why someone wouldnt submit their game.
but if someone had a game and they wanted to have a real url for their game instead of a subdomain im sure many people would enter

actually i dont care if i get a free domain name or not im jus t really kinda wondering about what prizes could possibly be. im perfectly fine with my subdomain plus i could always just go to DotTK

Free domain name?

I would only go as far as free file hosting of up to say 50MB, except I don't own my own site and such XD.


Besides it's easy enough to look for sites where you can get your own subdomain for free, sure they're fairly limited but it's a start, I'd avoid geocities or (dammit, forgot the name but it had like poor bandwidth).

You are probably thinking about Angelfire or Tripod or something.  I use Sitesled as they give you about 250 MB space in conjunction with Photobucket; images are saved onto Photobucket, game files are saved onto Sitesled.

But yeah, like I said earlier, prizes are mostly going to be centered around something that gave back to ZFGC or the awards themselves will give back to users so that they will be more inclined to stay here.

Domains are typically taylored to your needs, like previously stated...

As for having to be here for a certain amount of time; of course it's that way <_<;; sometimes we offer prizes that cost $$. We don't want those going to joe shmoe off of the street. We'd rather people who actually care about the community get those.
