I used to only make RPGs with Gm6.1 but the book inspired me to expand my talents! It inspired to make the following genres of games
-Platformer
-God Game (Mythical Safari :D)
When I have done one of each, I will be moving onto arcade games. Anyway, I love the book. Shame about there's nothing about making RPGs. So I have been thinking and thinking. And I came with one question. Should I write a book about making RPGs on gm6.1? It won't be one to buy as I don't do that thing (Unless Mark Overmars actually gave me permission to do so) It would be an online copy. I know alot of you wold ask.
-You? What RPGs have you made then eh?
-What makes you think your up to the job?

Well, the following reasons are why
-I have 4 RPGs to my name (The Great Tale Series. One is coming out tomorrow)
-I have learnt almost everything from Gm6.1. 3D and the stuff I don't actually need are left.
-I have spent 3 years programming.
-I have extra time at college so I can spend time there.

Anyway, here's what I would go through
-Use of GML in RPGs
-Stats
-Moving a character and attacking with a character (Both button and mouse. Mainly button for now)
-Menus that show stuff
-Inventory Version 1 (Everything's in a certain place)
-Inventory Version 2 (Anything can go anywhere)
-Enemies (4 types. Wanderer, Crawler, Chases according to grid and chases you)
-More to come

Anyway, if I did write an online book for making RPGs with Gm6.1 (Will ask someone to convert the codes in the book to Gm7), would you read it?

-Laigonaz

(Also, if this is in the wrong section, please move it to the right section. Thanks.)

Don't. Unless you very experianced in under-the-hood development (as apposed the asthetic development done in GM), then don't bother. All that will come out of it is a book severely lacking in a lot of aspects of RPG development, and instead crammed with useless information that will be of no use if the read moves away from GM.

Thats not what I meant. Sure they can understand, but will it be remotely usefull for anything bar a couple of asthetic features of a GM game? For example are you going to go over writing your own scripting language? And almost certain feature that would be in any rpg apart outside of GM? Are you going to go into the newances of game balancing? .etc, .etc. Telling someone how to make a battle system, inventory, hud, etc. is not really very helpfull to anyone.

Huh? You post doesn't make sense. Basically, I go over alot of the aspects of an RPG (Leveling UP, Stats, Moving Characters, Hud, Etc)

Actually it makes perfect sense. Here I'll simplify it; All your going over are very useless features of an RPG, things that anyone can work out with time, your not going over the real aspects of designing an RPG that are transferable across platforms (rather than being limited to GM).

He's saying that if you ever want to move past GM (Which after a while you'll want to) that book will be useless for anything but GM.

I bought the book and thought it was the biggest waste of money there is.  But, that's IMO.
