One third of Americans cannot remember the year ...
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:35:22 pm »
Apparently true. Also, around 1 in 10 cannot remember the month and/or day of the attacks.

The largest group that cannot remember the date is the 55-64 age group, which should be well away from age groups who are too senile to remember, or too disinterested in the world to bother.

I had trouble memorizing it for a while, but I've dedicated it to memory. It's one of those things that takes a long time to be ingrained into people's minds - eventually, it will become "history", and will eventually taught in class, where it'll just e another date shoved down their throats. Kind of funny, since I know many other dates that happened hundreds of years ago. Civil war - 1961-1965, Columbus reached land in 1492, Jesus died in 33 A.D.

The group of people were senile old people.

The mind is the first thing to go.

You'd normally expect the group representing those with senility to start from the age group of 65 and upwards, but the biggest group that couldn't remember was the age group immediately below 65 and upwards.

Where did you hear about this statistic Pyru?

The Daily Telegraph in the UK, on the 10th of August 2006 (yesterday). They ran a short article on it.

I'm not surprized. All of the hope and patriotism everyone felt was fake. We're drawn together in times of peril and do nothing for each ever after. Caring and welcomes fade as we move on into our normal lives and soon forget what has happened. Nations do not learn just as humans can only care for less than ten minutes. It's depressing, but not surprizing.
