You're looking at the game incorrectly. Look at it from a development standpoint, its a marvel of a creation. Why you ask me? You have a game, a free (or paid game) that you can play within your browser with out downloading a huge installer or a huge client to play the game. The graphics for a web-based java game are quiet impressive looking at other things I've seen in the past. RuneScape has come far in its graphical abilities and gameplay over the last 6 years or so. I no longer play it, I have a lot of 'crap' on my account and its sits their peacefully.
I think you guys are underestimating what the game is, sure it 'sucks' in one sense or another, but in the aspect of what the game really is, its amazing.
I think my greatest issue with RuneScape is the fact it grew so popular so quickly, it made it so hard to get stuff done at the point it started growing. I remember at peak times of the day we'd have 10,000 people on, anymore you're looking at close to 200,000 at any given time, peak hours are a thing of the past. Jagex got too huffy about holiday item drops after the 'Santa hat problem'. Which honestly was really awesome, because I was in a huge field at the time and totally stocked up on Santa hats (which are worth 'loads of money these days). Honestly the game has gone down hill in that respect.
On a side note, wouldn't RS would great on the DS? I'd rather have Diablo 2 though. >.>
