« on: April 27, 2006, 08:20:08 am »
I've been playing with Game Maker for more than 4 years, but I never understood how programming really works until they started teaching programming at school. So I decided to take my millionth shot on making a Zelda game.I had planned the story and weapons and other small things  about two years ago.

I just wanted to show you what I've done so far.I can't promise I will be active on it,especially since I give my graduation tests in a month.
So here's a link with the screenshots and the demo to download.I hope you like it.

Go to the site to download:
akallergis.googlepages.com/home

cloudsquall, your files aren't there. Neither opening the links directly or saving them gets me to a file.

It seems to only work when using Internet Explorer to download. I have no idea why Firefox didn't work.

The graphics, I hope you aren't too annoyed, are rubbish. I realize they're LTTP, but you're using the strangest resolution and all the graphics are stretched beyond belief.

But I didn't change the resolution at all.The button "Set the resolution of the screen" in global game settings is still unchecked.
Are you sure the problem isn't caused by your computer? It plays just fine on mine.Maybe you have any strange settings for your screen or something? :-\

New demo is now ready for download. The link is in the first post.

EDIT-I just noticed that when picking bushes from the left or right, the bush seems a little out of place. It is now fixed.

Your links just bring you to the account sign in page of Google Pages, and right-click Save As does not help. Neither does putting the link in the address bar.

To get to the download, just go here:

http://akallergis.googlepages.com/

and then click on the download link. You can actually download the file then.

Your welcome, cloudsquall!

After playing the new demo, I'm surprised at how quickly you managed to code a push engine and a grab/throw engine. Overall, it's much better than the first, and the resolution doesn't seem to be too bad now.

What's next on the list of additions? Possibly the Boomerang, or the Bow? Maybe a pull engine?

Anyway, this game has a nice start, and I look forward to seeing what you make of it. Though, you should fix that wierd pickup thing with the bushes and rocks. Are they becoming different objects or something as they're lifted?

So far pretty cool :D. One thing, those blocks you push, in lttp they push a full 16 pixels (1 Tile), its the guard statues that can be pushed 1 pixel at a time.

To MagicianType0:
The next things in my list of additions is probably a pull engine and some weapons. Also a rupee system, random item drops by bushes, changing rooms(you know, the transition thingy),a save system,a start screen maybe and anything else comes to mind.
Now about the bushes and rocks I do use different objects to pick them up,but I don't think there is anything weird(except for the one problem that
I specify some posts above).
Also could you tell me what the problem with the resolution is?It works fine with me and I have tried it with many screen resolutions and it plays just fine. :-\

To Benito:
I was thinking about that, too and I will probably change that.At first I thought it would suit my needs, but then I realized that it is difficult to move them just next one another etc.

Thanks for your comments people.I would really like to hear more feedback and I would also like to know what you think about the keymapping system.Keep 'em coming. ;)

The resolution is alright as it is, but it seems to be a little too zoomed in, like, the resolution isn't high enough, or something.

Basically as I stated above I didn't even touch the "Set the resolution of the screen" button in the game preferences.Maybe next time I should set it to , say, 1024x768?

Oh also the view in room is W:512
                                        H:448
and so is the port on screen.
Could that be the problem? You know I used this width and height for the view because I have a distant memory of TRM saying that those where the width and height used in ALTTP.

What I did was just double the values of width and height for the port to the screen.
So, you could have a port width of 1024, and a port height of 896. Try that out, and see how it looks.

Or, maybe you can make the view width 266 and the view height 224, then make the port width 512 and the port height 448.

Try them both, and see what works.
