Alpha Releases:
Alpha releases are like demos. The only real difference is that they are more of a "Here is what I did. Have fun with it." demo rather than one that has been put together with a few stages to play. As a result, Alpha releases are generally buggy, but they will appear more often than a regular demo. The controls and more information are included with the readme in the zip file. The source (GMK) is also provided with every Alpha release.
(NOTE: You will need to have Gamemaker 7.0 PRO and the INI Data Structure extention for the GMK to work.)

Game Information:
Pretty much the summary of this game: A much improved Sonic Ze.
There will be 10 new zones:
- 2 of them are actual normal zones.
- 1 of them is the final zone (but with 2 acts).
- 7 of them are the special stages (1 short act).

Anyway, things that I already have done to it:

  • Now runs at 60 FPS
  • New Movement Engine. Proper acceleration & deacceleration.
  • Sonic moves 4 times faster at a normal max speed. (In the original, Sonic runs at 4px at 30FPS. Now Sonic runs at a normal max 8px at 60FPS)
  • New water engine. Now there is water disortion underwater, and physics are different underwater.
  • Minor layout changes to Egg System Zone Act 1. Also added some more gimmiks, improved pipe sprite, emphizised more on pipes, and made Sonic move a lot faster in the pipes.
  • Completely redoing Star Night Zone (Improved BG and lights so far) and Rusty Ruin Zone (this will look more like Wood Zone, also added belts and will add more gimmiks).
  • 2 new levels - Wacky Workbench Zone and Gravity Helix Zone.
  • New sprites for springs & checkpoints.
  • New hud & title cards from Sonic 3.

That pretty much sums up the major changes.

If you need help with some of the programming, I'll help you out Yoshi. Your game was definitely really good. You should consider some SonicCD features in your game, too.

Your older sonic game was defenitly the best and most true-to-the-original Sonic fangame I have ever seen! I'm looking forward to new demo's, or the final version of the game. ;)

Sounds great! Also, will Tails be in it. Because everyone hates Tails. Even Tails. Now maybe Tails doll....


I'm just kidding about hating Tails. But the 2D Sonic games were the best. Even Sonic Rush is awesome.

I suggest you keep the old background, it was sex. Just throw "DX" onto it.

The old game's style and graphics were perfect, try not to remake them totally =(.

The old game's style and graphics were perfect, try not to remake them totally =(.

I'm not totally re-doing them. I'm just fixing up blurry ones and adding some animations to ones that could use it. Oh, and some stages do have new bg's, but they were 100x better than the old ones and do have parallex.

I didnt notice any blur but... you're the boss!

One thing that did suck about Ze was speed, at least I'll be able to play Ze how it was meant to be played.

Now, time to post some new screenies. Left is DX version, right is the original.



2 new levels (Wacky Workbench Zone & Gravity Helix Zone. Star Night Zone was changed back to Moon Midnight Zone.) And a lot nicer.



Rusty Ruin Zone is getting a major overhaul, and some actual gimmicks (right now there are rotating belts. I am going to add water slides.)



New title cards, level looks different (May change.) Also temp is measured in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit. Temp goes up a few every step instead of 10 every few steps.



New sinking platforms from Lava Reef Zone. There is also a new area to the left.



This endless pit in the original now leads to a new path (along with all of the other endless pits in this act.) You can clearly see the lava now animates. Note that Sonic is offset due to one of those earthquakes (which now become more frequent the higher the temperature is.)

Nice to see sprite fonts instead of regular windows ones (am I right?)

Also, why the resolution change?

Long time no see. How you been?

Anyways, I'm a little concerned about this update. Last time you made Sonic faster, the levels weren't designed for him to go faster, and the game lost all it's flow.
EDIT: Or do you mean just animation and no speed change?

It has been a long time, hasn't it? Well, I'm good.

No, there is a speed change. And don't worry about the levels. I am making some redesigns to many of them to make it feel a little less akward that Sonic can run at 4x the speed he ran in the original.

Now for fun, who can guess what zone's Act 2 got a name change:


HINT: There was/is a drastic difference between the 2 acts.
