Okay, time for a bit of an update.

First, we've done a lot of planning, new enemies, powerups, gameplay, level design etc.
The code is getting a bit of a revamp right now, Cocopuffs has been wanting to clean it up for a while, and he's doing that right now.
Which means it's currently pretty glitchy, but the things that do work, work very well.
It's kinda irritating how long this game is taking us, but rest assured, it's awesome.

here's an interesting look back:

the background bush tiles in the current screenshot aren't final, I'm just playing around with them ;)

wow great graphics... :D
the only thing that bothers me a bit: the sunlight shines from the righttop, but the shadow sides of the tiles aren't at the side you'd expect them... They're on the right too.. If you get what I mean

yeah, I've been meaning to flip the sunrays, just haven't done it yet.. I can't remember how I justified them being the wrong way.. but I had a reason at some point... flipped them right now

and yeah kren, I know, but at least the door isn't ridiculously small anymore, and there's plenty of solutions to get twinsen through the doorway

Very cool...I can't wait for the whole game...if one hadn't heard of little big adventure then I could have sworn this was an original game (Perhaps as it should be). This is deliciously awesome quality though, so keep it up!

You've really made a great job on it, and it's still in progress ! O.O
Anyway, the only thing that I can say now is... I can't wait to have the whole game on my PC ! ^.-

Looks pretty neat! are those backgrounds separated, so that one or two are moving when you walk?

hey, do you by any chance want a free-roam camera system? It allows the camera to basically move with a slight lag; makes parallax BGs look freakin supurb

Dude, looks stunning! I don't really know how you can keep yourself motivated for so long, but you're doing great job.
How many layers does the background have, may I ask?

yeah, I'm quite proud of that, it took a lot of layers

For the actual amount of layers in the background, I think there is:
1 for the cliff/bush layer.
another 1 for the mountains.
then there is 28 for the sky (because of how the sun warps the sky)
It's important to note that the sky+clouds move together, but the sun always stays in the middle of the screen so you get to see it actively warp the sky.

And the motivation, honestly, I don't think I will ever lose it.
Twinsen still only has half a dozen levels made, but I play the game for at least an hour every day.
The motivation for this game is simply because I'm sick of waiting for another amazing platformer, the last great platformer was really yoshis island on the snes.
It may sound cocky, but I think twinsen is an amazing game already, there is a ton of play control and variations on the gameplay and when you guys finally get a real demo I hope you'll enjoy it just as much as I do

The graphics are incredable, as everyone knows
but i sure hope something's done about the controls from the existing demo :S
i barely got anywhere through the first level because of after dying 10's of times thanks to me not being able to throw the ball at the plant and attack it correctly because of having to remember what key does what and in what combination with what, while trying to avoid some dragon fly or me jumping into the water or the knife being so tiny making misjudgements of attacks easy and ending up with you getting hit

of course if i played for quite some time then i may get on ok, but i dont think that should be the case with the first 10 seconds of the game O_o

there are some other comments on the controls and what not on the 64digits entry that i felt i agreed with too
