So what! I wanna get out! 'Cos there's so much out there! So many different people, living different lives! Incredibly good guys, bad guys... Folks completely different from us! It's one huge melting pot! See, it's not about success, dying in the streets, who's better, who's not! I just want to be a part of it! I realized that even if I've no connections, no talent, even if I'm one big loser, I want to use my hands and feet to think and move, to shape my own life! We can just die here or we can try, see what we've got!

That's some crappy research, right there.

Slipknot, Green Day and Linkin Park aren't emo. They have emo elements to their music (mostly lyrically), but that doesn't make them emo.

Neither is Fallout Boy especially. Their music resembles that of some emo bands, but they're still not quite there.

Yeah... like CoNfUsEd_GaMeR said. There's emo like indie-emo, and then there's like scene emo which includes stuff like screamo.

Here are a few indie-emo bands I suggest:
Death Cab For Cutie
Armor For Sleep
Copeland
Lovedrug
The Early November
The Postal Service
Mae
Straylight Run

If you're looking for kinda-scene bands:
Coheed and Cambria
Brand New
Emery
hellogoodbye
Pretty Girls Make Graves
The Stiletto Formal
Thrice

If you're looking for screamo and ridiculously scene bands:
UnderOath (Everything they've made with Spencer Chamberlain)
Atreyu
My Chemical Romance
The Used
Bullet For My Valentine
From First To Last
Hidden In Plain View
The Blood Brothers
Norma Jean (Their new stuff)

Some good hardcore emo bands:
As I Lay Dying
Evergreen Terrace
Haste The Day (Especially their old stuff)
mewithoutyou
Nodes of Ranvier
UnderOath (Their old stuff is AMAZING)
Norma Jean (Their old stuff)

I'm personally not into all this scene stuff. I like indie rock like Conor Oberst and Jenny Lewis's stuff.

But Oberst seems to be the very emo side of indie music. 'Sides, what I've heard of his music, it can hardly be classed as "rock". It's like folk/indie/emo.

This is, of course, from my incredibly limited experience with his music.

You're right for the most part, but Conor does have an indie-rock band. Desaparecidos  ;) They're amazing, but not as good as Bright Eyes in my opinion.

Hey, it was pretty good for having heard a grand total of four Oberst songs. <_< >_>

I ain't got anythin' against indie-folk, though. Should be more, I reckon.

Wow, a lot of the bands listed are NOT emo.

I don't really know a lot of emo bands, my best friend was into emo not long ago... His favorite was From First To last.... But thats all I remember :/

See how I put them in brackets :P They aren't one of those bands that spring to mind as emo but lotta people think they are, and I can see their point.

Alot of that old stuff is far from emo
I wouldn't say that the old Underoath is hardcore emo I would say its more black metal.

Well, I know that the hardcore bands I listed aren't exactly, "hardcore/emo," but emo kids tend to listen to them so included them anyways ::)
