That's some crappy research, right there.

Slipknot, Green Day and Linkin Park aren't emo. They have emo elements to their music (mostly lyrically), but that doesn't make them emo.

Neither is Fallout Boy especially. Their music resembles that of some emo bands, but they're still not quite there.

Yeah... like CoNfUsEd_GaMeR said. There's emo like indie-emo, and then there's like scene emo which includes stuff like screamo.

But Oberst seems to be the very emo side of indie music. 'Sides, what I've heard of his music, it can hardly be classed as "rock". It's like folk/indie/emo. Alot of that old stuff is far from emo
I wouldn't say that the old Underoath is hardcore emo I would say its more black metal.
