I'm willing to do whatever I can to optimize it so I can run any source game. My system randomly crashes when I run the Source engine. In HL2, it's playable, but randomly crashes, and always crashes when loading. Portal crashes when I go through a portal, and sometimes when I look at a portal. TF2 just gave me a blue screen after getting ingame for 5 seconds. I'm very sad, as new computers ALWAYS kick more ass than old ones (except if you have Vista), and this is redicolous. So, what should I do to optimize?
EDIT: I just realised that it's Dual Core. I heard that's a big no no. What should I do now?

Of course not!
Also, I'm updating DirectX from 8 to 9.0c. I bet that'll kick some ass.

That should probably help I think.

Dual Core shouldn't make any difference-- mine is Dual Core, works great n__n

Hope you get it to work :(

1. DirectX is an obvious help, I'm surprised those games even booted up...lol
2. Dual core is actually great for some games, Source included, as it allows multiple processor threads. On older games though, they may not support dual core and only use one of the two.
3. Integrated graphics? That could be a huge problem.

Yeah, DirectX didn't help much... I really don't understand. This IS a new computer, so maybe the engine has trouble adapting to the new GFX card? It wasn't even in their database. I sent info about the card, maybe that'll help?

Figure out what kind of graphics card you have. Start - Accessories - System Tools - System Information, then look under Display.

I gave the Orange Box to my dad for christmas, and at first it didn't run on his machine either.  He downloaded the latest drivers for his graphics card and it works fine now, so try that :D

Nope. No increased performance whatsoever.
It's an Intel G33 Desktop Chipset.

What Helios said. I'd recommend tearing the side off your PC and checking to see if it has any available GPU slots, and (this is a biggie) make sure you know what kind of card you'll need. Don't make my mistake and buy a PCI card when my motherboard only has an AGP slot.

I hate opening PCs, especially my new one. And there's no PCI slots, it's some kind of mini PCI I have never seen before... I mean, the tower is only... lemme eye it... 3-4 inches wide. I'm not converting that.

That's the problem with purchasing prebuilt PCs. They usually have integrated graphics.

Yep, that's what you get with prebuilt computers. Your options are low. First, check Intel's site and see if they have updated drivers for it, as well as lurking the Steam forums for a fix. If you must buy a new card, then make sure you're getting the right kind. Here is a picture depicting the different sizes:

If you have PCI-E 16x and need a good value (as in you just wanna play), the 7300GT is your best bet. I used it in my budget build and can run newer games while playing slightly older ones, like CS: Source, at max settings: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130025

If you have PCI-E 1x and just want to play, this is your cheapest choice (it sucks though): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161017

If you have AGP, look on eBay, virtually any GeForce 6000 or 7000 series card will fit your needs.

If you are so unfortunate as to have to use PCI, then get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143110

I dunno... how do I find out? The dell website and device manager aren't helping. It's an Inspiron 530S.

Well, after some simple Google work and poking around on Dell's website, it appears that all hope is not lost. You do have an open PCI-e 16x slot for expansion; however, you'll need a low profile card to fit inside that tiny ass slimline case. However, your power supply is a meager 250 watts, so you won't have much to work with for a new graphics card.

My personal recommendations:
For cheap, go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161200

For a little better, go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129098

ATI cards work best with Source, so those should both do okay for what you're looking for, and neither is prohibitively expensive.
