My stupid dog ate a piece of chicken with a sharp, thin stick in the middle. Fortunately it seems that the chicken padded the sharpness of the stick because he hasn't shown signs of pain and he hasn't coughed up blood or anything. Now my question is, will the stick dissolve in his stomach? Because the chicken will, and there goes the padding when it does. Halp. :(

And it is serious apparently. Mom's fiance Bill said there is 70% chance of him being okay. 30% chance of him needing surgery. The surgery is 15,000 dollars. We can't afford it. Bill said to give him food to try and give padding to sharp object.

I doubt it will dissolve. Either way I wouldn't take risks, if you think its a danger to the dog take it to the vets.

How big is the piece of wood?  Like a toothpick or something?  If it's something small like that you could try to make him puke.

it is slightly longer and thicker than a toothpick. Also, Chris, it didn't cost THAT much. And the chance of him being fine was 75%.

Yeah, why would it cost $15,000 to open a dog's stomach, take the wood out, and stitch it back up? And wtf at paying for surgery.

Kyubi, the surgery was more like 2000 dollars. Chris was exaggerating or being forgetful. And its not opening the stomach, but sticking a tube down to suck up the wood or something. Also, everyone pays for surgery.

We don't in Britain!  XD

Sticking a tube down? It should cost even less for a simple procedure like that.

Actually the majority of people don't have pet insurance in Britain, which means you have to pay for all vetinary costs.

And when it comes to the NHS, you still pay for it, just in taxes rather than up front.

No, technically wood is indigestible by virtually anything except termites. Whether it will be softened by the dog's stomach acids enough to prevent internal damage is another question entirely.

Thank you for your insight. Now I ask... "will [it] be softened by the dog's stomach acids enough to prevent internal damage"?

Bill is a vet. This is an animal hospital. It's different apparently. And he doesn't work at the place Thor is. :'(

I have to pitch in my share of all my savings. My 800 dollars. I'll do it of course. Anything to keep Thor alive. Donations?

Actually, there's a spot of good news amongst it. The 5000-6000 was the worst-case estimate, and Bill actually does work at that hospital, so he gets about a 40% discount. It could cost a whole lot less, and Thor will at least be fine again.
