Mother Discussion (EB)

ITT we talk about Mother series. Beside the obvious like it's the best and etc. Which one's your favorite? For me it's Mother 1. Not graphically. But it has the best story and the music is brilliant. Most songs have cool vocal versions too. I don't like the vocal version of 'All I Needed Was You' however. Never played Mother 3. I'm waiting until the translation project is done. They have all the translating done, but they still need to fix glitches. I'm thinking about starting a Mother Compendium site. It would have information on all the three Mother games. Mother 1 (EB0), Mother 2 (EB), Mother 3 (EB2). Then in those sections I would have categories like Characters, Music, Maps, Enemies, Bosses, Items... etc. :-*

Also I'm positive I know more on Mother Series than all of you. Prove me wrong?

Ok, on topic.. I've never really played any of the Mother series, but it sounds like an awesome game. I found out about it through SSBMelee, lol. Erm.. could you post the site to where the translation project is?

There ya go, mate; Tomato's translation blog!

I really can't pick out my favorite... I sorta did not like Mother's monster - specially the ones on Mt. Itoi... But they're all so good (even Mother 3 although I didn't understand some of the story, I got basic gist of it).

Don't know about Mother 3. In Mother 1, Ninten awakens his PSI by reading his great grandfather's diary in the basement. In Mother 2, Ness learns PSI when Buzz Buzz gives him the Sound Stone.

I forgot about Mandrag! He might know more than me. But it's close. I've been into Mother for a good few years now, read up all I could on it.

No better time than the present I guess.
Which is a better starting point Mother 1 or 2?

From what it seems like to me, Mother 1 was fully translated then dropped. Don't get mad, but I have the ROM and usually the translated ROMs says the translator in the filename or in the game. But nothing like that exists in this ROM. So if you don't mind getting the ROM, find it and (I recommend) Jnes. Or NESticle. Whichever you choose.

AND I HAVE THE COOLEST PICTURE OF LUCAS EVER!

What I really meant was that I know everything about Mother 1 and 2, and I will soon know everything about Mother 3. :P

The story is continuous. However, the US only got Earthbound, so the story was adapted (I believe, at least) in a way that wouldn't require Mother 1. In truth, the only continuous thing in there is Giygas (or Giegue) and the Starmen. That's it. Giygas is attacking 'again' in Mother 2.

I'd say, start with Mother 2. Mother 1 has, to quote some people from Starmen.net, "balancing issues at the end of the game". If you want to play Mother 1, I say grab the GBA fan-translation.

But someone got a hold of the pre-release copy and dumped it.

I remember hearing that a while ago, but it slipped my mind when I posted.
Anyways I've started Mother 2, it's pretty good so far.
Not a big fan of the battle system though

Everyone seems to say that. I don't understand why. It's standard Dragon Quest style which people have no problems with, and it has a lot more variables to make it more interesting. Like Speed and IQ.
