Discussion / Mmorpg interviews - Moderator interview added

Ok so here's the deal. I'm making interviews in Runescape and other Mmorpgs like Puzzle Pirates to see what players want in a mmorpg.

I put different answers from different players below each question.

What makes you play Runescape?
-Well actually my friends, they got me hooked in.
-I play to be with my friends.
-My friends and it's fun
-Well I was looking for a free MMorpg without needing to download it, and I found this.
Then I made friends. I like the quests and minigames, I keep playing because of the updates and one thing I like is the big overworld.
But in all, the main thing is the friends.

What kind of quest do you like?
-Not too long ones, exciting and interactive is the way.
-Quests where you need to fight a lot.
-Mostly adventure quests where you go exploring etc...
-Easy ones, ones which award you with something. But most importantly, fun!
What are your favorite skills?
-Fighting ones, mostly. I also like interactive skills, like fishing or woodcutting.
-Any, fighting or interactive.
-In my opinion the interactive skills are better than fighting ones.
-Any which involve fighting and defending your player.
How many hours do you play per day?
-It depends on the days, mostly 1 to 2 hours.
-It depends, sometimes 5 minutes or even 1 hour.
-Around 1 or 2 hours
-Too much, more than 4 hours per day.

What makes you play Runescape?
-Competition. My family told me about it and ever since I have tried to beat them.

What kind of quest do you like?
-I guess any kind of quests. From short to long ones. But I prefer those with many hard puzzles.

What are your favorite skills?
-I guess I like fighting skills are my favorites.

How many hours do you play per day?
-Trying to play less, but right now over 1 or 2 hours.

And a Bonus:

Would you like to see more interactivity in a game?
-I'm not sure if I'd like to work harder or not.


I hope these interviews will help mmorpg developers.
I'll make some in Puzzle Pirates later.

Graphics / Need advise on custom new "HUD"

Well I'm making this "HUD" for my game, but I don't know how to make the bottom. You see the empty part? There will be diferent submenus in there which will show on the upper box when clicked. Well this is what is troublesome, There will be some icons for the submenus but I don't have any ideas on how to make it.
If you have an idea, please post here. Thanks.

Edit: Oh and nothing modern, please.
I also forgot about the icons, they are 32x32, I'll make them myself. They are simple, for example, options submenu would be a tool or something, inventory a sac or something. I just need an idea on how to display them on the box at the bottom. Oh and there will be 10 of them.

Hey guys well since I'm making a project right now I figured out it'd be cool if it was a mmorpg, but apparently they are hard to make. So I scratched the idea. But I see a few people here who are doing succesfull mmorpgs, for example, Oracle of Life from AoDC and The World by hawthorneluke. (The first two that came to my mind)
So I wanted to discuss the hard aspects of making a mmorpg. I have no experience whatsoever in this domain, though. Well, discuss.

Graphics / Program for making isometric graphics

Does anyone have a suggestion on what program to use for making isometric graphics? Making isometric lines can get annoying because you can't "shift" and make perfect lines, you have to make pixels by hand, 2 horizontally and 1 vertically...it's so annoying! Seems like Ms paint isn't enough...  :(

Ok so I was avoiding making a link sprite for my game until...well it just couldn't be denied! :P So I need advises on the head and feet, but I feel kinda good with the body. I'm going to make animations but first I want your opinions.

Graphics / Gm graphics problem: Infinitus Fsa grass filter

Ok so I tried searching for an hour now, abut I don't understand how to apply the grass filter on my game because its red! I only want the grass to be like this not the rest, so I don't put it as a foreground layer. I put  background_alpha to 0.5 and it goes orange!

Well I thought of something for my game, would you like to have like, for example, a bow and you aim with the mouse? Or a boomerang, or stuff like that. I got the idea from Tp and Ill maybe put this in my game, do you suggest me to do this or not?

Coding / GM6.1 Request: Going in/out of houses

Ok Ive been trying to do this by myself but I just cant seem to get it right. I need a code or an example for going in/out of buildings, or going upstairs/downstairs(basicly the same). Thanks in advance!
Edit: Ok It finaly works now. Can you guys just tell me how YOU would do it? I mean just to see if theres a better way.

Coding / [Request: GM6.1] Collision ways

Hey I've been having some problems with collisions, I've tried at least 5 ways and all fail. Well I've tried:
-Make each tile an object (takes years!)
-Making masks of each tile (kinda like first one)
-Making a sprite which is a pic of all the room with all the things which you collide with in it.
...and some other which I dont remember  :D

So how do you guys do it?
