I'm going to a school learning digital animation, so i'm getting into 3D modeling quite a bit now.  Since everyone that can model and wants to do a Zelda weapon automatically goes for the Master Sword, I thought I'd be different and go for the Biggoron sword, also one of the guys at Kousou Games said that a character he created uses the it sometimes.

I used Maya to create & render the model.  It's difficult to find pictures of the Biggoron Sword, and since the one in OoT has so little detail I based it mostly off of this tiny picture:


So... What do you guys think?  See anything that could use improvement?
Since I'm doing this stuff for school I need to practice, so if you have suggestions for things to make I'd be glad to consider them.

Uhm, make the handle grey and make the round thing gold like in the example.

The Handle isn't supposed to be grey actually, here, I found a slightly larger image of it.  Ack... My Goron emblem thing is a bit too orange.

EDIT: Wait... no, that larger image is tinted strangely, it is supposed to be more gray-ish.  My mistake.

Much better color wise... it doesn't look orange anymore but it just needs more of that polished metal goodness

In the spinning model, why are lighting effects applied to only one side? I can't think of a single thing that would cause that... although I mainly use 3ds Max 7, so maybe it's due to my lack of experience with Maya.

I was thinking the same thing, perhaps it's the camera rotating rather than the sword? :P

Yeah, the camera rotates around the sword, and I lit the back of it poorly.

I'm not entirely sure what exactly you mean by "polished metal goodness" but this is after changing the lighting, and shader settings.

Like you know how most metal objects in OoT are just insanely shiny almost mirror like? THAT kind of polished metal goodness... I'm trying to find good screenies here soon... h/o...

Yeah, that's really awesome! The shiny thing could also make it nice, but don't make it too shiny like in OoT. :P

Actually Maya can do real reflections, all I really need to do is turn them up on the gold part, and put something in there for it to reflect, for example I put a random screenshot from OoT on a flat surface across from the sword:

Sweet....My only suggestion is try to make the reflection closer so it looks like Link is about to grab it or is coming towards it/lookin at it
but hey its a 5/5 for me

The only thing I don't love about this is the handle, the fact that it's so smooth and round, even though it has like a (I assume) leathery wrap around it. It would be cool if you could extrude the edges of the wrap a bit to make it look like it's actually wrapped around (obviously extruding the part that goes over the part below it). That'd be awesome.
