Alright, this is my latest work. I probably won't release the whole thing right away, seeing as how it's for one of my indie games, but I figured I'd post the first 30 seconds of it. I just started on this an hour ago, so if something isn't sounding right, don't worry. Let me know about any problems, and they'll be fixed for when I either release the music, or release the game, which would of course have the music in it :P.

EDIT: Darn, I just noticed the volume was way down. I raised that a bit, take a listen to it again, hopefully it will sound closer to what I intended.

Pretty nice
It seems a little too "sophisticated" for a Village theme (specifically), more like for a town.

What kind of game is it for?

The drum, cybal and flute make it sound very asian-like which is cool.

As i'm listening to the piano part, for some reason I imagine a tiny bit of echo so it almost sounds like it's playing double notes, but not quite. Maybe that'd be something you could add later on in the song or something.

Good work though :), keep it up!

Heh. This is a piece I did for the village at night time. This village would indeed happen to be asian inspired, and at night they light latnerns. And stuff. I'm going for the sort of... mysterious/enchanting feeling you would get walking down an old asian street lined with lanterns and... stuff. If you know what I mean. :P

As for the "piano"... it's not really a piano at all, it's a harp. And yes, I did add an echo to it so that it (very subtly) plays a "ghost" track. ( It's barely audible, yet it still contributes to the piece) I feel it gives an even more.... entrancing? Mysterious maybe... type feel to the song.

Anyways... I'll keep working on this piece. :P

You know, straight after I posted it I was like "is that actually a piano", but couldnt be bothered to change my post lol.
Yeah, I would suggest upping the "ghost" track a little more at some point in the song so that it ads some variation and a bit more thickness to the song.

It's pretty cool, the instruments sound good, you must have quite a nice soundcard  :D

The only thing is, IMO, that it's really yearning for a key change - the arpeggio staying the same the whole way through doesn't sound natural to me.

I think it's fine in the short clip, Depending on how long the whole song is, yes It would probably need a key change  somewhere within it, however, it's a slow paced song and it seems fine that it stays the same key.

Well, my soundcard isn't quite what matters. I mean, a good sound card will make a lot of difference, but seeing as how I'm using samples (wav files and soundfonts) it really doesn't matter so much. It's just what you do with them. And you're right about the key change. I wanted to do that, but the final song does not have a key change. Maybe I will work on it later again, maybe I won't. For now, I'm working on a new song :p

Thanks. Not all of the sounds I used were from that site however. I merely used the harp sample off of there. I found other means, such as purchasing audio samples.

Just edited my post. I didn't quite rip any sounds, I just bought a couple CDs that had audio files of a single instrument note and used that as you would any other sort of sound.

Nice.

Would you mind sending me the .flp file? I have FL Studio 6 also.

Do you have the main "fruity loops' edition, or the most expensive one?

I've got the fruity loops edition. And about the flp file... I don't know... the song (the full version) is going to be used in my indie game, which is going to be sold, so I'm not too sure about giving out stuff like that. But if you have an alright reason, sure, I guess it could be arranged :P

Well, mostly because I've been playing classical piano for about 11 years, and I downloaded FL Studio 5 about a month ago. I'm upgrading to FL Studio 6, and I still ahven't got the hang of what it can do - like certain effects in the song (such as the dynamics and stuff).

I woudn't use it at all in my project - merely to see how effects were added.

Or did you just use instruments that came with the packs?
