I'm testing out a new resource centre that I've been building upon an old unfinished one that I was working on ages ago that was built off the research of all my past failed attempts at building one I thought was suitable.
It focuses on the idea that all different types of resources can be associated one single way (like by character, location, author etc.), for example, you might have a collection on "Link" where you could have a sprite where he's slashing a sword and you could have the sound it makes, and perhaps even some kind of engine that has the code for it all in one location.
Resources themselves work a little different than the current system, as to create a resource you are only required to specify a name and it's type, this is mainly so people can maintain a complete listing (useful for ripping and other projects where you already know what you need). You can also specify the state of the resource (if it's completed, a wip, or nothing's been done with it). In addition, the system itself doesn't differentiate between different types of resources, but rather you define them yourself in the database (if you have access to it).
Collections can be edited by anyone (sorta like a wiki), but can also be set to read only by the member if you don't want people to edit it and can also be set to be only viewable by a small amount of people (say if you wanted to store your resources here for central access and didn't want others accessing them).
I felt it would be a good idea to conduct some sort of public beta, so I've uploaded it to the current incantation of zfgc, it is accessible by the following link;
http://www.zfgc.com/forum/index.php?action=resourcesKeep in mind not all features have been implemented yet, and there's also a few aesthetic issues as well. Also, once the beta period is over, everything on their will be deleted.
I would like it if people commented on what they think of it so far and if they find any bugs (I'm pretty sure there's a couple out there). In addition, I've put up a few basic/small examples so people can gather the concept I was going for here.
