Check attachments.

I've had an idea (again) to make a survival-horror top-down game.
But, I also thought of using the MC palette to see how it would turn out.

Sadly, I think my sprites skills will always be !@#$%.
To make a nice base to work from, I was going to make 24 x 24 sprites.
I was using pics of Leon S. Kennedy from RE2 as a reference to get my bearings down.
I think I messed it up pretty bad.

Any ideas?  Most everyone else and zombies will be based from this first 24 x 24.
I an trying to do the "cram alot of detail into a small space" method.

I got hair, shoulders(the weird blues are supposed to be the pads you see in the pictures), hands( the grays and cream colors on the sides...wearing gloves :/ ), and tried to throw some feet/boots in there.

Supposed to be the idle stance :/

EDIT: I slapped together another one which is a bit "thicker" and probably a touch better IMO

Well, I reccomend you doing it 2d somewhat like MC, or LTTP, not completely topdown, that way you will have possibility to add more details, since in topdown is really hard and near impossible to add tons of details.

Bah, you know how hard it would be to sprite 100 possible angles?
See, I have my engine set up to do a full 360 degree turn for zombies, players, etc.
Top-Down is the most effective way of doing this as you need only one direction(the horizontal-right direction) and just change angle based upon direction.

So, if I changed the perspective to MC or LttP, how can I have a full PROPER LOOKING (lol) full range of motion.

Well, if you do it how I said, you might end with something similar to "Zombies ate my Neighbors"-style, you only need up down left right, for everything.. but thats just me, I have seen alot of zombies topdown games, and I really don't like them for being just so generic :/, but yeah spriting all is alot, but how I see game design is that if you are going to make something make it the best or atleast try it, hell you are spending it alot of time making a game just to see people hating it :/.

Try a bigger size. I made a quick attempt myself using a black outline and your colors. The head might be a bit square-ish, but a bigger size to work with can make things look right. I started with a 60x60 square then cropped it when I was done.

Well, I decided to keep my size.  I added a few more frames.

Frames 1-3 are normal walking then it adds row 2 frame 4 then row 1 frame 4 for running.
Probably needs some more work.
The frame where Leon's hands are empty is eventually going to be the knife animation.

I changed the topic to basically a dumping ground for C + C with my sprites.

I don't think it's looping.  If someone wants to add the loop to it they can.
I have this animation playing in GM 7 at a speed of 5 in the sprite editor.

I was going for zombie movement with the head going side to side pretty steeply.
I keep the arms at a horizontal movement.

Other zombies will do the old fashioned arms out approach but seem need that dull pointless walking.

If you play it slower it looks better.

Also, I posted an image in attachments that have the handgun ammo box and shotgun ammo box pickups.
