Metal Gear Solid when...

Meryl gets shot by Sniper Wolf

That was....an emotional rollercoaster.  I mean the MGS games bring emotions like no other game pretty much.

Also in FFVII when...

the cutscene where Barret gets his arm shot off
r

I don't know why I can't get that part out of my head, probably cause I was little when I saw that part and I thought it was like the wrongest thing ever,

how he lost his arm and a friend or something.

Definitely Metal Gear Solid 3. Also ICO and Shadows of the Colossus. Both are wonderful games.

A lot of games have been epic for me:

Most Recently: Okami
The last boss battle was amazing and felt epic because of it's battlefield and
location. The ending was quite nice and semi cheerful as well ( I liked Issun's last
words).

others: Star Ocean TtEoT (PS2
Dragon Quest (Series)
Legend of Zelda (Obvious)

Damn, you are right man... Even though Ive beaten that game more times then anyone I know I kind of forgot about that. Barret was always playing the tough guy, and that was a really griping moment when he was dealing with Dyne, and what happened to them both and their village. He was trying to hang onto him, but he couldn't and they couldn't see eye to eye later when they were reunited. It was so realistic like it might be in real life. Real human emotions. You finally get to see why he hates shinra so bad.

Then, later on when you confront Dyne again, he was taking all those shots at Barret, and Barret wouldn't let anyone interfere and he just took them. Dyne was all like, "my hands are far too blood stained to carry marlene, and he jumped off that cliff, and Barret fell to his knees and he was all like "mine are too..." They both went through so much together, both had gunarms.

That was a really good side plot in the game.

The most recent one: Final Fantasy X
I've honestly never cried that much before from a game or hell even a movie. It was just so enveloping you get attached to every character! I mean come on if you didn't have some part of your heart just rip out when Tidus finds out Yuna has to sacrifice herself just to attain peace for her country if only for a few years then all that work to save her only for Tidus to have to leave her since he really doesn't exist you're just heartless! And with an ungodly amount of hours I've put into that game, it's most definitely deserving of the "epic" reputation.

Runner(s) up: Kingdom Hearts I/II
Ok, maybe not KH2 as much as KH1 since KH2's ending just didn't do it for me but my god did I cry at the end of Kingdom Hearts 1 since it kinda hit close to home with me and my boyfriend at the time since he moved away. However in general the storyline does have a lot of depth to it and it's still amazing how they can blend Disney and FF characters and create such a masterpiece.

Epic?  A game that is literally epic throughout, God of War 2.  That game is !@#$% intense.  In the first level, you're fighting a HUGE living statue... He throws you around the city, you keep fighting him, then you destroy him from the inside while he's on fire.  That game is the most epic game I've ever played.

But which games actually affected me... Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence.  KHII was great too, but MGS3 is by far the most important emotionally to me.

Ooh, I should finish God of War II sometime. I've had it since it came out, and haven't played it in ages. It's a pity too, it's such a great game. But now that I have Viewtiful Joe, Beyond Good and Evil, Eternal Darkness, Oblivion, Gears of War, and Dead Rising to play through, I'm at a bit of a loss as to where I should begin.

Anyway, more on topic, Xenogears and Xenosaga. Xenosaga is one of the most epic game series I've ever played (especially Episodes I and III). As for Xenogears, how can you get any more epic than slaying god?

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time. I was like 6 when I first got it, and I hadn't played anything like that before it.

The last great game story, hmm? I would say Paper Mario (beat it a couple weeks ago). Even though it was a Bowser steals Peach storyline, it still felt epic. I played TTYD before this though. It made me understand why the whole Paper Mario series is fun in everyway.

I'm not really sure what the most epic game story for me is. I've played so many games with engaging stories that I've lost track. I'd have to say the best story goes to Oblivion. The reason I say Oblivion is because the story is what you want it to be.

(!@#$%)

Hear the haunting words (They'll find you alone)
lost children with no heart are crying (Turning their hearts into stone)
and you're the lost mother they're calling
Go now, run and hide (seek more than vengeance)
I hear them crying at night (your pain is their satisfaction)
outside when the planets are falling (for the rest of time)
They want to feel and know you hear them (Go now, run and hide)

Morrowind. I dunno why but I will always feel that game was superior to Oblivion, and the story line was so much more complex then "Demons run around, you go find amulet!", and it got you involved into the lore of the games more than Oblivion did.

It's too long a story to fit into one paragraph (unlike Oblivions), and it is just awesome.

Majora's mask. It's like the forgotten sequel... going back to it and playing it, there's just something beautiful about the way that it's put together, that makes it ever so great.
