So this is the new Official Bioshock thread.  The game that ALMOST became the highest scoring game ever... but has to settle for the second highest scoring game ever :(

Comes out tomorrow, this is game of the year material... I highly suggest anybody who has a decent computer to go and download the demo, or maybe just buy the game :P

And 360-owners, you are obligated to get the game.  Highest rated 360 game so far :D

SO EXCITED :D

I'm downloading the demo for PC right now, I hope my compy can run it.

It looks so awesome, if my pc can run it smoothly, I am buying it, no question.

Played it, looks reasonably funny...
I may try the demo on the PC, but I'm pretty sure it won't work here.

I will definitely go out and purchase this game as soon as I get off work tomorrow (at noon). I played through the demo and determined that this is the number one must-have 360 title. It's an amazing blend of action and storytelling that had me playing through the demo three times already. It's so detailed and atmospheric; I'm not sure I could ask for a better game.

Well, it doesn't work on my compy.
It ran very choppy and looked like crap and then crashed when I got into Rapture.
I guess I'm waiting on a 360 for this one :(

Nvidia, and ATI both released new beta drivers pretty much just for this game that make it faster, and more stable.  Of course if your graphics card doesn't support shader model 3.0 it's not going to look right at all anyway.

I got the demo, but when I try to run it nothing happens.    My cursor changes to the loading cursor for a couple seconds, then no game, no errors, no anything.  I know my computer is better than the minimum requirements.

That sucks.  The game runs beautifully on my computer, and the new drivers make it even better looking... But it's too late for me to get the PC version... I've already pre-ordered the 360 version :/

I'm not sure if it's worth renting or buying. It doesn't look to have much replayability besides alternate endings and achievement hunting. And only a 20 hour story? Do us all a favor, persuade me to rent or buy, and at the same time, increase your post count by 1.

=/ You know, I think gamespot gave it a low score just to stop a game from beating or equaling Oot. (A fan-service basicly... ) I mean, considering every other review was 9.5+....

lol This !@#$% is the same guy who reviewed TP.

:( Just got pieces of the ending ruined for me.... eh, not a twist I could not have figured out on my own. Avoid the 2k forums for now...

Demo downloaded, was all good until I crashed when Rapture loaded D:

I have class in the morning so I'll play it tomorrow, got some new drivers that should fix the problem. I can't wait...too bad I can't buy it until I know how much my Political Issues book costs. lol

I've had a look at some BioShock stuff, but I can't seem to find out what the premise of the game is. I've seen little girls, guns, drugs, and giant monsters wearing diver's helmets. I haven't really seen a lot of stuff, but otherwise it makes no sense to me. Does someone care to explain what kind of game it is?

If it is good, then it should be equally about the gameplay and story, if not more gameplay. I hate games that focus on story more then gameplay, and then they go and get high review scores then I go out and buy them and I end up hating them or not liking them a lot because the gameplay is terrible.

I suppose I'll pick this up in a year or two when I can find a working 360, and when there's a few good games out on 360 and the Wii is in a drought (should that happen, which it might).

EDIT:

Quite honestly, I didn't have any interest in this game until reading this.

Spent the day reading and watching BioShock. My final points;

- Not for children
- Keeps you going until the end ("mystery"/storyline)
- Linear gameplay (as in, not as "wtf am I doing" as Zelda)
- Character customization/upgrades (guns/magic, whatever it was, plasmid? I forgot)
- Clever AI
- Interesting characters
- Buy if you're old enough, game of the year material, Halo 3 has competition.
- Great graphics
- The reviewer for it on GameSpot is a complete fuckwit, he gives all of his games low scores.

End communication.

DON'T SPOIL YET!

Come on, wait for me!

I'm still going to have to figure out how to get this, considering that I am not 17 yet.

Ah... I got it to run.  Apparently because I have a DirectX 10 video card it assumed it should run in DirectX 10 mode, but I don't have Vista so I can't use DX 10.  That's a bit of a dumb mistake by the programmers.

Anyway, in case anyone else gets the same problem you can force Bioshock to run in DirectX 9 mode like this:
-Right click on your Bioshock shortcut, and pick properties
-Go to the shortcut tab
-Add '-dx9' to the target outside of the quotes, so the target field would say something like the following:
Quote
"C:\Program Files\...\Bioshock.exe" -dx9

Actually I've got a better idea. Screw the 360, I'll just get a good laptop.

This means I'll also be able to play Assassin's parkour, Halo 3 and maybe even Resident Evil 5, if Capcom is nice enough.

I played it today.
Hot !@#$%. That was the first time a videogame had instilled fear of death in me for a LONG time. The hook-splicer lady was just too creepy. the AI were the most incredibly responsive ones I've ever seen, too. I just love this game.
Bioshock > Halo 3
I might just get a 360 to have this for my own. I am, after all, and excellent eBayer.
